CITY OF BEVERLY.
BUSINESS DIRECTORY.
Beverly, on the "North Shore " and Beverly as a manufacturing and mercantile center is well-known throughout the country. Its steadily increasing population and business importance recommends it to all classes of manufacturers and business men who are looking for a suitable location in which to estab- lish business. The town was incorporated in 1668 and city charter granted in 1894. Population over 15,000. Eighteen miles (thirty-five minutes) from Boston on the Eastern Division of the Boston & Maine Railroad, with a train service of about fifty trains a day. Center of the Boston & Northern electric rail- way system, connecting the city with every important city and town in eastern Massachusetts. Superior harbor, which is being further improved by dredging. The most important industries are the manufacture of boot and shoe machinery and women's and children's boots and shoes, and at the present time the United Shoe Machinery Co. is building its new million dollar plant, preparing to consolidate its large nterests here in a short time. The board of trade and building association offer exceptional inducements for desirable industries. There are three banks, daily and weekly newspapers, one of the best fire depart- ments in the state and first class public schools.
NOTE. It has been found necessary to insert names of firms as a general rule under the one heading which best represents them, except in the case of patrons, when extra insertions are sometimes made.
