CITY OF BEVERLY

BUSINESS DIRECTORY

Beverly, clean, healthful and beautifully located on the North Shore with seven miles of the most charming views to be found on this continent, recommends itself to all classes of manufactur- ers and business men on account of its first-class rail and water facilities and equitable freight rates to all shipping points. Its most significant growth proves it to be the coming city of this part of the Massachusetts coast. Within its limits are scores of millionaires' and multi-millionaires' palaces ; but its life and vital energy are shown by the fact that the manufacturing industries, comprising shoes, machinery, automobiles, oiled clothing, foundries, enameling works, planing mills, wood and paper boxes, grain elevators, electric works, etc., are employing a thrifty and well-paid, intelligent people who are contributing to the busy growth of the city. The shoe industry, established more than a century ago, alone pays one million dollars per year in wages. The United Shoe Machinery Company, occupying the largest reinforced concrete factory plant in the world and employing 3,000 to 4,000 skilled mechanics, pays a wage of over one and one-half millions per year. The New England Oil Company has its New England terminal here and docks its fine steamships running from Port Arthur, Texas. Spur tracks of the Boston & Maine Railroad connect with all the wharves. Population of Beverly, 1910, estimated about 20,000. Eighteen miles from Boston on the Boston & Maine Railroad. Center of the Boston & Northern Electric Railway system connect- ing with every important city and town in eastern Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Superior harbor. Three banks, daily and weekly newspapers. Excellent fire department. Good sewers. Pure drinking water. Well-lighted streets. First-class public schools.

NOTE .- It has been found essential (as a general rule) to insert names of firms under the ONE heading only which best represents them, except in the case of patrons, when extra insertions are sometimes made.

*Patrons' insertions only under these headings.
