POOR SPELLING PUTS DOUBLE WORK ON WHITE HOUSE STAFF
WASHINGTON, June 17, 1929-The White House came to the conclusion today that there was room for improvement in its spell- ing.
When the nomination of Frederic A. Tilton as third assitant postmaster-general was sent to the Senate a "letter K" was added to the first name. In that form the nomination was subsequently confirmed by the Senate. But, so far as the government in general and the Postoffice Department in particular are con- cerned, there is no such person as Frederick A. Tilton.
Subsequently the whole procedure must be gone through again and the White House today prepared a new nomination with the name correctly spelled for transmittal to the Senate.
