There is included in the Fire Department, Rocket Engine, No. 2, at Ayer's City ; Engine No. 5, on Fourth Street ; Fire King. No. 6, at the Almshouse, - which are manned, when needed, by volunteer companies.
At the date of the last report of the Chief Engineer (March 31, 1869), there were belonging to the Department, 7 engineers, 127 firemen, 7 engines (including four steamers), 14,100 feet of leading hose, 204 feet of surtion hose, 10 hose-carriages, 1 hook-and-ladder carriage, 2 fuel wagons, 7 horses, 8 hooks, 26 ladders, &c. The corporations have 18,500 feet of hose and 350 force-pumps. The city has 16 reservoirs and 100 hydrants, and 22,156 feet of water- pipe laid through different streets.
There is connected with the Fire Department a Firemen's Fund As- sociation, intended to relieve firemen who may be in need of assist- ance. The trustees for 1869-'70 are Chief Engineer Clifford, Assistant Engineer Hobson, and the Foreman and Assistant Fore- man of each Company.

ST. JOHN'S HOSPITAL.
Under the charge of the Sisters of Charity, High-Street Square Lowell, Mass. Established May 1, 1867. The Hospital is now open for the reception of patients of both sexes and of all denomi- nations. The hospital is attended by the ablest physicians in the city, under whose professional and personal charge the Institution is conducted.
On Sundays, visitors will be admitted from 12 o'clock to 4 o'clock in the afternoon.
On Thursdays, from 10 o'clock, to 12 o'clock, A.M .; from 1 o'clock to 4 o'clock, P. M., and from 6 o'clock to 72 o'clock.
The Hospital closes at 72 o'clock in the evening.

The exhibition of the Society takes place annually the last Thursday in September, on the Fair Grounds, comprising about fifteen acres, in the southern part of the city of Lowell.
