FOREST HILLS.
THE DEARBORN MONUMENT.
The first purchase of the land was completed, and a deed obtained, on the 28th day of March, 1848. The work in laving out the grounds, &c., commenced on the succeeding 25th day of April, and "Forest Hills Ceme- tery " was consecrated on the 28th day of June of the same year. The grounds at that time contained about seventy-one acres, and were selected by a committee of the City Council, of which the Hon. H. A. S. DEAR- BORN, now deceased, was chairman. The location scem's to have been wisely selected, as it has since proved ; and the fitness of the place was well expressed by another, in the following quotation, at that time : -
"Even as if the spot Had been from eldest time by wish of ours So placed, to be shut out from all the world ! So lonesome, and so perfectly secure; Not melancholy -no, for it is green And bright and fortile : Peace is here, Or nowhere: it could not be more quiet. Retreat within retreat, - a sheltering place Within how deep a shelter ! "
By an Act of the Legislature, passed March 24, 1848, the City Council was authorized to eleet five Commissioners, who shall have the sole care and management of the Cemetery ; one Commissioner to go out of office each year, and one Commissioner to be elected in March of each year. And, by an Act of March, 1852, the Commissioners were authorized to receive donations or bequests of property, the income to be applied to the perpetual care of lots- thereby saving the trouble to owners of lots of looking after the care of them every year. The Cemetery has been increased from 71 acres to 133 acres. Since the Cemetery was consecrated ifp to the present time, the number of lots sold amount to about 2,100, and of burials to 7,474.

ROXBURY DIRECTORY.
MEMORANDA FOR PROPRIETORS.
The Records of Deeds are kept in the City Hall, under the direction of the City Clerk, and are the only evidence of the title of a Proprietor re- cognized by the Commissioners ; consequently when a person receives a lot by transfer from a Proprietor, he should immediately send his deed at once to the City Clerk's office for record.
Care of Lots. A book is kept at the Superintendent's office at the Ceme- tery, in which are entered all orders for the care of lots. Proprietors should be particular to specify what care they desire to be devoted to their lots, and it is requested that all orders given should be in writing.
Flowers. Proprietors in want of flowers to beautify their lots will find them at the Cemetery by calling on Anthony McLaren, the gardener, with whom, they can settle for the same.
Interments. For opening grave, making and recording interment, $4. For opening grave, making and recording interment for child under ten years, $3. For opening tomb, and making interment and record, from $4 to $5. For grave in "Field of Manoah," interment, record and stone No., $13. For deposit in Receiving Tomb, $15 (of which a part will be re- funded in case of removal to any part of the Cemetery within sixty days). For making a brick grave, interment and record, $20.
The above sums are all payable at or before the time of interment.
Undertakers are required to have all orders for interment signed by the Proprietor or the proper authorized person, accompanied with the necessary town or city-permit, as the interment cannot be made unless the above rule is strictly conformed to.
It is necessary, where there is so great a liability to make mistakes in names and dates for record, that the undertaker should be very particular, and require the friends of the deceased to see that all orders for interment · are correct.
-
CEMETERY NOTICE.
For the information of those who do not know already, it may be well to state that visitors can take the Dedham train of cars, and stop at the Forest Ilills Station, which leaves them within five minutes' walk of the Cemetery ; or they can take the horse-cars for Forest Hills, running over Shawmut Avenue every half hour. Any information relative to the Cemetery can be obtained of OLIVER MOULTON, Superintendent at the grounds ; JosEra W. TUCKER, City Clerk, City Hall, Roxbury ; or either of the Commis- sioners.
(Er No Proprietor can be admitted to the Cemetery on Sunday, unless he has a card of admission, which can be obtained of Joseph W. Tucker. Any other person who wishes to visit the Cemetery on Sunday must ob- tain a pass.

This institution, one of the largest Insurance Companies in the world, was established in 1845; and the rapidity of its growth . is attested by the fact that in twenty years from its commencement it has, without amalgamation, attained to an
Annual Fire Premium exceeding Two Millions of Dollars.
Among the causes of this unexampled success may be men- tioned,
1st. The wise determination of the office, from the start, to make the entire security of the assured the paramount consider- ation ; to which end the Reserve Fund has been annually in- creased, so that when the GREAT FIRE of LONDON occurred in 1861, resulting in a loss to this office nearly reaching the ENOR- MOUS SUM of 400,000 DOLLARS, the surplus funds held to meet such contingencies were not only sufficient, without encroaching on the capital of the Company, but they left far more than the amount then called for yet in reserve.
2d. The PROMPTITUDE and LIBERALITY in the settlement of claims have largely contributed to secure for the Royal, wherever its business extends, the strongest position in the confidence of the public. The high character uniformly maintained by the company in this respect has been conclusively demonstrated by its honorable adjustment of losses incurred from fires in every quarter of the globe.

ROBINSON'S PATENT SYSTEM OF VENTILATION,
For Churches, School-rooms, Prisons, Stables, Factories, and Workshops, Drying and Dressing Rooms, &c.,
Founded on the only correct theory of Ventilation,
Ilas been applied in many hundreds of cases with universal success. On page 37 of the Bos- ton School Report for 1863, see this :
"In the nearly or quite unanimous opinion and experience of the members of the School Board, the system of ventilation represented by Robinson's Instruments is the best now in the market. Their judgment. in this respect, is based not upon mere theory, but on posi- tive, indisputable facts. In the Bowditch Grammar School-House, and in the Primary School-House on Harrison Avenue, the success of these ventilators has been complete and entirely satisfactory, and CANNOT BE QUESTIONED.
