The Buell family of Ludlow was descended from William Buell (or Bewell) of Chesterton, Huntingdonshire, England, who came to New England about 1630 and settled at Dorchester. Mass .. but removed a few years later to Windsor, Conn., where the family took a prominent part in the early history of the town.

THE BERR FAMILY.
In 1630, three brothers, Jehu. Benjamin, and Rev. Jonathan Burr, came from England in Winthrop's fleet.

THE CARVER FAMILY.
Robert Carver' was the Pilgrim progenitor of the Carver family of Granby. He was born in England about 1594; bought land in Marshfield, Mass., in 1038; was in the train band in 1043, and a freeman in 1644. He married Christian He died in 1680, outliving his wife 22 years. Joel Chapin, a clergyman, son of Shem,' was born Jan. 13, 1761. Ile died in Bainbridge, N. Y., in 1845. His marriage to Eunice Lucretia, daughter of Deacon Edward Chapin of Chicopee, was published Nov. 10, 1789. They had three children. He was a soldier in the Revolution : then a graduate of Dartmouth College in 1791. He settled as a minister in the Susquehanna valley.

Ile married in Nov., 1845, Sarah Whittemore Popkins, born May 22. 1826, died Nov. 28, 1808, daughter of Stephen and Beulah ( Bates) Popkins. Children : Charles Albert. born April 26. 1848. Edward Earle Chapman, a farmer and musician, son of Charles,2 was born in Springfield, Feb. 13, 1862; a member of the school committee nine years; since 1890, member of quartet of Third Congregational Church in Chicopee, most of the time director. He married in Wilbraham, Dec. 6. 1883, Charlotte Elizabeth Corbin, born July 9). 1802. daughter of Charles .A. and Lovisa ( Lawson ) Cor- bin. Children :

THE HUGH CLARK FAMILY.
Hugh Clark' was born about 1613. He is first mentioned in the town records of Watertown in 1641, when the birth of his eldest son is recorded. He lived there about 20 years. llis wife's name was Elizabeth. Children : John, born Oct. 13. 1641.

John Clark, son of Hugh,' was born Oct. 13. 1041 : received from his father in 1681, 67 acres of land in Newton, then called New Cambridge. He removed thither from Rox- bury in the same year. This land was situated in Newton Center near the present site of the Newton Theological Seminary.
John Clark, son of John, was born in 1680. He married for his second wife, Elizabeth Norman of Boston. They had several children.
Isaac Clark,' the fifth child of John, was born Oct. 19, 1707, and died June 22, 1730. He was selectman of Newton. He married Ann Peirce of Dorchester, who died in 1748.
John Clark," son of Isaac,+ was born July 21, 1730. He lived in Framingham and later in Hopkinton, where he died in 1783. He married Ang. 7. 1749, Experience Wilson of Newton, daughter of Samuel and Experience ( Trow- bridge ) Wilson.
John Clark," eldest son of Captain John,? was born June 7, 1750; married Elizabeth Norcross, daughter of Joseph and Hannah ( Shepherd ) Norcross of Weston.

THE GEORGE CLARK FAMILY.
George Clark' came to Rutland in 1765. He was a soldier of the Revolution. He kept his final settlements after the war until they sold for $500, then he opened a store. He married in Sept., 1765, Elizabeth Rice, born in 1745, daughter of Quartermaster or Captain Aaron and Eliza- beth ( Bullard ) Rice. (See Rice Gen. ) Children: Patty .- Sally, and Aaron Rice.ª
