It has been my endeavor to keep the expenditures within the appropriation, but some unforeseen expenses, which were not anticipated in the appropriation. have made it impossible to do so. Cutting down the hill near W. E. Hayward & Co.'s new mill, as per order of the selectmen, has cost the town $283.47. Building a new bridge near the Lovett mill, and repairing the bridge near J. B. Sweet's, putting on new three inch covering plank as per order of the bridge viewers, has cost about $350. I also found it necessary to repair the road scrapers, neither of which could be used as they were; I have put them in good
