March
To special appropriation for grading and curbing library grounds $300 00 This amount was expended by a special committee of the trustees.
On March 28, Miss Alice E. Luther, who had served so faithfully as librarian for many years, owing to ill health, was granted a vacation, and Miss M. C. Nichols was appointed sub- stitute librarian. After the death of Miss Luther in November, Miss Vera H. Warner was elected as librarian.
Vera H. Warner, librarian
24
By the will of James Smith, the library is to receive the sum of $6,000.00, the income therefrom to be used for the purchase of books.
James M. Fairfield of Boston, has continued his liberality towards the library by the donation of $5,000.00 in Massachusetts State bonds, the income of the same to be devoted to the care and maintenance of the library building and grounds.
After a careful consideration of the subject, the trustees unanimously decided to change the system of lighting the building, adopting electricity in the place of gas, and discontinued the acetylene gas plant. This was accomplished, to the satisfaction of all, in December.
CHAS. J. BATCHELLER, Treasurer.
