32

Report of Town Accountant

In compliance with the provisions of Chapter 41 of the General Laws, I submit the following report of the Accountant's Department for the calendar year ending December 31, 1961, including sources of receipts, detail of appropriation expenditures, statement of trust funds and town dept, and a balance sheet showing the financial condition of the town as of January 1, 1962.

During the year the books of the Treasurer, Trust Funds, Tax Collector and Water Department have been examined ; the latter two on a quarterly and monthly basis respectively. They have been found to be in good shape and up to date. The Treasurer's cash on hand was proved and the reconciliation of the statement from the First National Bank of Northampton and verifying the deposits of reserve cash in the Haydenville Savings Bank and the Holyoke Savings Bank revealed this department correct in each detail. The Trust Funds consisting of stocks, bonds and savings bank deposits were examined at the office of the Treasurer and at the vault of the First National Bank of Northampton. The individual funds were checked and proved and the numbers of books, cer- tificates and bonds were found to be correct, in proper order and up to date.

The cooperation of the officials and their associates during these various examinations are appreciated and most helpful.

Respectfully submitted, WARREN E. MCAVOY Town Accountant
