In 1950, on Dec. 30, the sum of $3,000.00 was received from the estate of James D. Dilling- ham, to establish a fund for the care of the Dillingham and James Dean plots in the Dean cemetery in Assonet Neck.
Most of the towns of the Commonwealth have trust funds that have been left by former citizens for various purposes; Berkley has but few. Outside the small perpetual care funds, there are only the Leach, Allen, and now the Dillingham funds.
Public spirited citizens are urged to make provisions in their wills for trusts to be established in their memory. Such funds might be established, for example, for library purposes, for care of the Common, for a school playground, or for any of a number of worthy purposes.
Respectfully submitted, FRANCIS F. G. ANDREWS Treasurer.
