Pursuant to the foregoing warrant I hereby notify and warn the inhabitants of the Town of Braintree, qualified as therein expressed, to meet at the time and place for the purposes therein mentioned.

In accordance with the foregoing warrant the town met at the time and place specified ; the meeting was called to order and the warrant read by the Town Clerk.
Article 1. Upon ballot with the use of the check list, Mr. F. A. Hobart was elected moderator and was sworn by the Town Clerk.
Art. 2. Voted that the provisions of Section 349, chapter 548 of the Acts of 1898 be accepted and that precinct voting be established for the election of all town officers required to be elected by ballot at the annual town election and for such other town officers as the town has already determined shall be so elected, and for voting on the question of granting licenses for the sale of intoxicating liquors, and such elections shall be held in the precincts already established.
Voted to adjourn.

In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of the

Town of Braintree, qualified to vote in Elections therein, to meet at the polling places in their respective Precincts, to wit :
Polling place in Precinct No. 1, Town Hall.
Polling place in Precinct No. 2, Hose House, Hollis Ave.
Polling place in Precinct No. 3, Hose House, Allen St.
on Monday, the fourth day of March, 1901, at six o'clock in the forenoon, then and there to bring in to the Wardens of their respective precincts their votes on one ballot for a Town Clerk, a Town Treasurer, 3 Selectmen, 3 Assessors, 3 Overseers of Poor, 3 Surveyors of Highways, 3 Auditors, 3 Fence Viewers, a Tax Collector, Tree Warden, 2 Trustees of Thayer Public Library for 2 years, 2 Members of the Board of School Com- mittee for 3 years, 1 Water Commissioner and Commissioner of Sinking Fund for 3 years, 3 Members of the Board of Health, and 15 Constables. Also to vote on, the same ballot, Yes or No, upon the question, Shall licenses be granted for the sale of in- toxicating liquors in this Town ?
The polls will be open at six o'clock in the forenoon and may be closed at 12 o'clock M.
You are further required to notify and warn said inhabi- tants qualified to vote as aforesaid, to meet at the Town Hall in said Braintree, on Wednesday, the Sixth day of March, in the year 1901, at eight o'clock in the forenoon, then and there to act on the following Articles, namely :
· Article 1. To choose a Moderator to preside at said meet- ing.
Art. 2. To choose all other town officers except those elected by ballot.
Art. 3. To hear and act upon the reports of the several Boards of Town Officers, and of any Committee, and to choose any Committee the Town may think proper.
Art. 4. To see what sums of money the town will vote to raise and appropriate for support of Public Schools, and for transportation of pupils to and from the Public Schools.
Art. 5. To see what sums of money the town will vote to raise and appropriate for the repairs highways, town ways, bridges, removal of snow, watering streets and for building stone roads and sidewalks.

Art. 6. To see what sum of money the town will vote to raise and appropriate for the support of the Poor.
Art. 7. To see if the Town will authorize the Treasurer with the approval of a majority of the Selectmen to borrow money in anticipation of taxes, and issue notes of the Town therefor, and to see if the Town will hold the Treasurer harmless on his bond from any loss which may arise from the failure of any National Bank in which the funds of the town may be on deposit, said bank or banks being designated by the Selectmen.
Art. 8. To see if the town will continue to pay for the bond of its Treasurer as last year.
Art. 9. To see if the town will vote to charge interest on all unpaid taxes after a certain date.
Art. 10. To see if the town will accept the Jury List as prepared by the Selectmen.
Art. 11. To see what sum of money the town will vote to raise and apppropriate for the support of the Fire Department.
Art. 12. To see if the town will vote an appropriation to assist in defraying the expense of a Fireman's Field Day.
Art. 13. To see if the town will vote to place a fire alarm box at the corner of Washington and Common streets and appropriate a sum of money for the same.
Art. 14. To see if the town will re-appropriate the sum of $1,000 for the new ladder truck.
Art. 15. To see if the town will raise and appropriate the sum of $50 to repair Hose house No. 2, in South Braintree.
Art. 16. To see if the town will re-appropriate $100.00 of the money unexpended from the Preston Box appropriation, for the repairs and extension of fire alarm.
Art. 17. To see if the town will raise and appropriate the sum of three hundred and twenty-five dollars for new hose.
Art. 18. To see if the town will vote to accept the pro- visions of Section 337 of Chapter 548 of the Acts of 1898, and elect three Road Commissioners, one for the term of one year, one for the term of two years, and one for the term of three years.
Art. 19. To see if the town will vote to rescind the vote

requiring the use of official ballots for the election of town officers.
Art. 20. To see if the town will vote to abolish voting precincts for the election of town officers, and for voting on the question of granting licenses for the sale of intoxicating liquors.
Art. 21. (As petitioned for.) To see if the town will vote to abate a portion of the taxes for a term of years, on manufac- turing establishments located, or locating in the town.
Art. 22. To see if the town will vote to raise and appro- priate the sum of $500.00 for grading the grounds around the Penniman school building. (As petitioned for.)
Art. 23. To see if the town will vote to build a sidewalk on the westerly side of Cleveland avenue, from the junction of Cleveland avenue and Harrison avenue, and running northerly to connect with the present sidewalk in front, and serving as the street boundary of property of George H. Holbrook, and raise and appropriate a sum of money sufficient in amount to cover said work.
Art. 24. To see if the town will vote to choose a Munici- pal Light Board, as provided by Section 10 of Chapter 454 of the Acts of 1893, one for the term of one year, one for the term of two years, and one for the term of three years.
Art. 25. To see what sum of money the town will vote to raise and appropriate, for the operating expenses of the Elec- tric Light Plant, connecting new consumers, etc.
Art. 26. To see if the town will vote to continue its night police and raise and appropriate a sum of money therefor.
Art. 27. To see if the town will vote to raise and appro- . priate a sum of money to assist Post 87, G. A. R., in defraying the expenses of memorial services on Memorial Day.
Art. 28. To see if the town will vote to raise and appro- priate a sum of money for hydrant service.
Art. 29. To see if the town will vote to raise and appro- priate a sum of money for the Water Loan Sinking Funds.
Art. 30. To see if the town will vote to raise and appro- priate such sums of money as may be necessary for the pay- ment of notes that become due in the year 1901.

Art. 37. To see if the town will vote to raise and appropri- ate a sum of money for the enforcement of criminal laws.
Art. 38. To see if the town will vote to raise and appropri- ate a sum of money for insurance on town property.
Art. 39. To see what sums of money the town will vote to appropriate for the support of insane in hospitals, for the pay- ment of State and Military aid, and for soldiers' relief, as pro- vided by Chapter 447 of the Acts of 1890, and to determine how much of the same shall be raised by taxation.
Art. 40. To see if the town will vote to accept the pro- visions of Chapter 455 of the Acts of 1894. Entitled : An act relative to the licensing of plumbers, and the supervision of the business of plumbing.
Art. 41. To see if the town will vote to authorize the Selectmen to organize the police force, by the appointment of a chief of police.
Art. 42. To see if the town will accept the laying out of Steadman avenue as a town way, as made by the Selectmen, lead- ing southerly from School street to Elm street, and raise and appropriate money to build the same.
Art. 43. To see if the town will accept the laying out of

Harrison avenue as a town way, as made by the Selectmen, lead- ing westerly from Middle street to a point near the new Penni- man school house.
Art. 44. To see if the town desires to take any action rela- tive to abolishing grade crossings.
You are directed to serve this warrant by posting attested copies thereof in three public places in each precinct in said town, seven days at least before the said fourth day of March, 1901, and by publishing the same once in the Braintree Bee.
Hereof fail not and make due return of this warrant with your doings thereon to the Clerk before the first day of March, 1901.

Town Clerk at eight o'clock A. M. Voted on motion of Mr. G. D. Willis the reading of the warrant with the exception of the opening portion and the officer's return of the same be dispensed with.
Article 1. Mr. A. O. Clark was appointed to check the list. Messrs. Hartley L. White, George W. Stevens and John W. West were appointed tellers to assort and count the vote for Moderator. The whole number of votes for Moderator was sev- enty-two. Mr. F. A. Hobart had that number and was elected and sworn.
Art. 2. Voted that after the appointment of an Appropria- tion Committee of fifteen as provided for in Article 3 of the Town By-Laws, and the election of such Town Officers as have not been elected by the official ballot, this meeting do adjourn until Wednesday, March 20th, 1901, at. 7.30 o'clock P. M.
Voted that the Moderator be allowed 24 hours to appoint the Appropriation Committee and that he then file a list of the same with the Town Clerk; that they may be notified and a record made of the same. .
Voted to choose five (5) Surveyors of Wood and Weighers of Hay. Messrs. J. M. Arnold, Peter B. Lawson, B. Herbert Wood- sum, William Allen and Edward M. Wight were chosen and all sworn except B. Herbert Woodsum.
Voted to choose three (3) Surveyors of Lumber. Messrs. Herbert W. Borden, Charles O. Miller and George H. Holbrook were chosen and sworn.
Voted to instruct the Selectmen to appoint one (1) Measurer of Leather, one (1) Pound Keeper and three (3) Field Drivers.
The following gentleman were chosen by acclamation as Trustees of the Braintree School Fund for the term of three years : George H. Arnold, George D. Willis, Will W. Mayhew, Francis A. Hobart, Alva S. Morrison, Richard L. Arnold and Benjamin F. Dyer.

The petition of Stillman F. Pratt and ten others, citizens of Braintree, praying for a recount of the vote for Constable de- posited at the town election held March 4th, 1901, for the follow- ing persons, namely : John H. Lyons, David C. Haseltine, F. O. Whitmarsh and John Kelley, the several parties liable to be af- fected by said recount were notified according to law. The Board of Registrars of Voters were notified of said petition and they proceeded to recount said votes in the manner provided in Section 264, Chapter 548, of the Acts of the Legislature of the year 1898, on the 12th day of March, 1901.

The town met in accordance with adjournment from March 6th. The meeting was called to order at 8.15 o'clock by the Moderator.
Voted that if this meeting be in session at 10.10 o'clock P. M. that the Moderator shall then declare it adjourned until Sat- urday, March 23d, at 7.45 o'clock P. M.
Article 3. Voted to take up Article 3 of the warrant .. The official report of the Town Officers was presented.
Voted to lay the same on the table.
Voted that remarks be limited to ten minutes for each per- son, and once on same subject, unless by consent of the town and then not over ten minutes in addition.
Voted that a committee of seven be appointed by the chair. to investigate any charges against any officer, and also to investi- gate the conduct of the entire Police department and report at some adjournment of this meeting, and that no action be taken under Article 37 until said committee has reported unless they fail to report before the final adjournment of the present town meeting.
Moderator appointed Messrs. C. C. Mellen, Daniel Potter, George H. Arnold, George F. Hussey, W. A. Mckean, John W. West and Edwin F. Porter as that committee.
Voted to proceed to the consideration of the report of the Committee on Appropriations.
Voted to first consider that part of the report relating to the Fire Department.

The town met in accordance with adjournment from March 20th, Moderator in the chair.
Voted that at 10.10 o'clock this meeting be adjourned to Wednesday, March 27th, at 7.45 o'clock P. M.
Voted that the police investigation be public, and that the committee employ a stenographer.
Voted to lay the report of the Appropriation Committee on the table and take up Article 5 of the warrant.
Voted that the Surveyors of Highways be instructed to in- vestigate the condition of the streets and sidewalks of the town at the earliest possible moment and put them in a safe condition.
Voted to proceed to the consideration of that part of the Appropriation Committee's report relating to highways.

For the maintenance of Highways, in addition to
amount received from State for that purpose, $1,700.00
For construction of stone roads in addition to excise tax, 3,500.00 Construction of sidewalks, 1,725.00

Voted to refer the item relating to the repair of the retain- ing wall at the Quincy avenue bridge to the Highway Surveyors

Voted that it is the sense of this meeting that the Highway Surveyors be instructed to appoint Mr. William E. Mayberry as Superintendent of Streets and Sidewalks.
Voted to proceed to consider the remaining items relating to the Fire Department.
Voted to re-appropriate the sum of $1,000.00 for new ladder truck.
Voted to appropriate the sum of $100.00 for fire alarm box at the corner of Washington and Common streets.
Article 16. Indefinitely postponed.

The town met in accordance with adjournment from March 23d, Moderator in the chair.
Voted that if this meeting be in session at 10.10 o'clock P. M., it then be adjourned to Saturday, March 30th at 7.45 o'clock P. M.
Article 7 taken up. Voted, that for the purpose of pro- curing a temporary loan to and for the use of the town of Braintree in anticipation of the taxes of the present municipal year, the Town Treasurer is hereby authorized and directed to borrow from time to time with the approval of a majority of the Board of Selectmen, a sum or sums of money not exceed- ing in the aggregate seventy-five thousand dollars ($75,000), and to execute and deliver the note or notes of the town there- for, payable within one year from the time the loan is made. Any debt or debts incurred by a loan or loans to the town under this vote shall be paid from the taxes of the present municipal year.

Art. 8. Voted, that the Town Treasurer be and is hereby made the custodian of all money of the several Departments of the town, and all the secureties of the several "Sinking Funds " of the town. The Board of Water Commissioners are hereby instructed to elect the Treasurer of the town, treasurer of the Water Department. The Selectmen are hereby in- structed to require from the Treasurer, such a bond as in their judgment is necessary for the safety of such money and secure- ties ; that the town pay for said bond and that the Treasurer be held harmless on his bond from any loss from the failure of any National Bank in which the funds of the town may be on de- posit with the approval of the Board of Selectmen.
Art. 3 taken up. Voted that the thanks of the town be extended to the committee appointed to investigate the police department, that they be discharged from the further considera- tion of the matter and the investigation be stopped.

For School Department.
Pay of teachers in addition to dog tax and school fund, and for teacher of manual training.
