Motion to adjourn for two weeks, not carried.


Article 3. Voted, that the Town Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, be and hereby is authorized to borrow money from time to time in anticipation of the reve- nue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1920, and to issue a note or notes therefor payable within one year; any debt or debts incurred under this vote to be paid from the revenue of said financial year.


Article 4. Voted that the Town Treasurer be, and here- by is made custodian of all moneys of the several departments of the Town; the Board of Water Commissioners are here- by instructed to elect the Town Treasurer, treasurer of the Water Department; the Selectmen are hereby instructed to require from the Treasurer such a bond as in their judgment is necessary for the safety of such moneys; that the Treasurer be held harmless on his bond from any loss caused by the fail- ure of any National Bank or Trust Company in which the funds of the Town may be on deposit with the approval of the Board of Selectmen ..


Article 5. Voted, that article 5 be considered in connec- tion with all other articles in the warrant.


Article 57. Taken up.


The committee appointed at the last Annual Meeting to con- sider the matter of taking land in Precinct Three for Play- ground purposes, reported in writing. Report received and placed on file.


Voted, on motion of Mr. Shelley A. Neal, That the town acting through the Park Commissioners take by eminent do- main for a public playground or recreation center about twenty- two acres of land with the buildings thereon in the east part of the town, bounded west by Quincy Ave. ; south and east by Wey- mouth Fore River and north in part by Gordon Road and in part by land of the Watson Hill Development Company, and

that for the purpose of acquiring said property that there be appropriated the sum of eleven thousand dollars ($11,000.00) . and that the Treasurer of the town with the approval of the Selectmen, be and hereby is authorized to borrow the said sum and to issue bonds or notes of the town therefor; said bonds or notes to be payable in accordance with the law and the provisions of Section 14, of Chapter 719, of the Acts of 1913 and amendments thereof so that the whole loan shall be paid in not more than thirty years from the date of the first bond or note or at such earlier dates as the Treasurer and Selectmen may determine.


Article 5. The Appropriation Committee rendered their report in print.

The Town met in accordance with adjournment from March 22. Moderator W. F. Rogers in the chair.


Voted, on motion of Mr. Monk, that the salaries of the Assessors be increased to $400.00 each, and that the same be paid from the appropriation already made for the Assess- or's Department.


Article 5. Mr. A. E. Avery moved a committee of three to consult with the Trustees of the Eastern Mass. St. R. R. Co .; not carried.


Voted, the following motion of Mr. Fitzgerald as amend- ed by Mr. William Dyer, viz .: That a Committee of nine be appointed for the purpose of investigating the housing of school children of the North, East and South parts of the Town, including the consideration of a High School building. Said committee to hear all parties interested, secure data and plans, and report its recommendations and findings at a meet- ing to be called for the purpose not later than December 13th, 1920. The report of this committee to be submitted to the Appropriation Committee at least one month previous to the date and be given in print to the citizens of the town at least two weeks prior to the special town meeting. And it is further moved that Edgar F. Norris, John J. Craig, F. T. Noble, Law- rence Joslin, be appointed on said committee the remainder to be appointed by the Moderator, and that the sum of $1000.00 be raised and appropriated for the use of said committee. H F. Kneeland, C. A. Sullivan, Geo. A. Walker, H. N. Longley, and Arthur Haynes were appointed.


Article.32. Mr. Larkin moved that the vote taken under this Article March 15 to indefinitely postpone, be reconsid- ered ; not carried.


Mr. Abercrombie moved to reconsider the vote taken on the motion of Mr. A. E. Avery ; carried.


Voted, that a committee of ten, one of whom shall be the Moderator of this meeting, be appointed to consult and confer with the Trustees of the Eastern Massachusetts St. Ry. Co., as to the re-establishment of transportation facilities on

the line between Braintree and East Weymouth. That said Committee be also authorized to consult and confer and co- operate with the committee of ten appointed by the town of Weymouth to consider a similar question in the town of Wey- mouth. That said committee be further requested to con- sider any alternative methods of transportation to provide for- the general public as well as for the school children living in Precinct Three to report to the town as soon as may be.


Article 10. Motion of Mr. Newcomb to reconsider the vote taken March 22, relating to sleeping quarters for men in Franklin street house; not carried.


Article 14. Voted tc appropriate the sum of $150.00 for a Fire Alarm Box in Harbor Villa Section.

Article 46. Voted, $2,000.00 from the balance of year 1919 for the extension of the six-inch main on Storrs Avenue dead end to Elm Street.


Article 47. Voted, $2,800.00 from the balance of year 1919 for the extension of six-inch main on West Street from the dead end to connect with the mains at Five Corners.


Article 48. Referred to the Water Board, to investigate cost number of probable takers, etc., and report at an adjourn- ment of this meeting.


Article 49. Voted to appropriate the sum of $1,500.00 to extend the water main in Audubon Road from its present end west of Ferncroft Road to the corner of Audubon Road and Argyle Road, provided that property owners release their rights.

Union School Building, and that the same be leased for a term of five years to Post 86, American Legion, at a rental of one dollar per year, the Town reserving the right to use one room for polling purposes.


Voted, to add the Commander of Post 86, American Legion, to the committee.


Voted, on motion of Mr. Abercrombie that the custody of the Union School Building be transferred from the School Board to the Board of Selectmen.


Article 49. Voted, on motion of Mr. Fogg that previous action under this Article be reconsidered.


Voted, on motion of Mr. Fogg that the Water Commis- sioners be instructed to put in the water pipes in Audubon Road to give the citizens an all year supply of water and that the sum of $300.00 be appropriated for the same.


Article 24. Voted, to accept Morrison Road as laid out by the Selectmen, and appropriate the sum of $600.00 for the same, provided the abutters pay $150.00.


Article 25. Voted, on motion of Mr. Avery to accept Hillcrest Road leading southerly from Hayward Street, as laid out by the Selectmen.

In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts you are hereby directed to notify and warn the inhabitants of the Town of Braintree, qualified to vote in Town affairs to meet at the Town Hall in said Braintree, on Monday, the 28th day of June, 1920, at 7:45 o'clock in the evening, to act on the following articles, namely :


Article 1. To choose a Moderator to preside at said meeting.


Article 2. To hear and act upon the reports of any com- mittee, and to choose any committee the town may think proper.


Article 3. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money for the purpose of purchasing portable schoolhouses and for the original equipment and furnishing of the same, and authorize the treasurer to borrow for said purpose or to take any action relative thereto.
