In accordance with the foregoing warrant the voters as- sembled in the Town Hall.


The meeting was called to order at 7.45 o'clock P. M. and the warrant read by the Town Clerk.


Article 1. By ballot with the use of the check-list, Mrs. W. F. Rogers was chosen Moderator and sworn by the Town Clerk.


Article 2. Mr. Hannaford offered the following inotion : That the Selectmen be authorized to enter into negotiations with the Trustees of the Eastern Massachusetts Street Rail- way Company in relation to the restoration of transportation on their lines.


Amendment offered by Mr. Kneeland that the Selectmen be instructed to revoke licenses of Jitneys between Braintree and Holbrook.


After a very lengthy discussion the amendment was re- jected by a vote of Yes 180, No 208.


Voted to adopt the motion of Mr. Hannaford.


At 11.15 P. M. meeting adjourned, sine die.

WARRANT FOR SPECIAL TOWN MEETING COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS


Norfolk, ss. To either of the Constables of the Town of Braintree. Greeting :


In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts you are hereby directed to notify and warn the inhabitants of the Town of Braintree, qualified to vote in Town affairs, to meet at the Town Hall in said Braintree.


On Monday, the 13th day of December, 1920, at seven forty-five o'clock in the evening, to act on the following arti- cles, namely :


Article 1. To choose a Moderator to preside at said meeting.


Article 2. To hear and act upon the report of any com- mittee and to choose any committee the Town may. think proper.


Article 3. To see if the Town will raise and appropriate such sums as may be necessary for the purpose of construct- ing, furnishing and equipping a new high school building, and authorize the Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, - to borrow all or any part of said sums in accordance with the provisions of any general or special Act authorizing the Town to borrow for such purpose, or take any action relative thereto.


Article 4. To see if the Town will raise and appropriate such sums as may be necessary for the purpose of constructing an addition to the Abraham Lincoln School and for the original furnishings and equipment of said addition, such addition in- creasing the floor space of said building, and authorize the Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow all or any part of said sums in accordance with the provisions of any general or special Act authorizing the Town to borrow for such purposes, or take any action relative thereto.


Article 5. To see if the Town will raise and appropri- ate such sums as may be necessary for repairs to the Abraham Lincoln School.


Article 6. To see if the Town will vote to appoint a Com- mittee for the purpose: of constructing a new high school building, of constructing an addition to the Abraham Lincoln School and making repairs to the Abraham Lincoln School, or take action relative thereto.


Article 7. To see if the Town will raise and appropriate such sums as may be necessary for the purchase of portable school buildings or take any action relative thereto.


Article 8. To see if the Town will raise and appropriate such sums as may be necessary to provide suitable schoolhous- ing accommodation for the high school and grade schools or take any action relative thereto.

Article 9. To see if the Town will vote to instruct the Selectmen to lay out as a town way, Cotton Avenue, so, called, from Shaw Street easterly to Quincy Avenue.


Article 10. To see if the Town will accept chapter 535 of the Acts of 1910 authorizing the construction of a system of sewerage.


Article 11. To see if the Town will accept chapter 546 of the Acts of 1910 providing for the addition of the Town to the South Metropolitan Sewerage System.


Article 12. To see if the Town will petition the Legisla- ture for such additional rights and powers as the Selectmen may deem necessary in relation to the construction of a system of sewerage and drainage, including a possible addition of the Town to the South Metropolitan Sewerage System.


Article 13. To see if the Town will vote to amend the vote passed under Article .3 of the warrant for the special town meeting held on July 7, 1920, which provided for the purchase of portable schoolhouses and the original equipment and furnishing of same, so as to read as follows: VOTED : That the sum of $15,000 be appropriated for the purpose of and the original equipment and furnishing of portable school- houses; and that $2500 be raised by taxation in the current year, and that the treasurer, with the approval of the Select- men, be and hereby is authorized to borrow the sum of $12,- 500 and to issue a note or notes of the town therefor, said note or notes to be payable in accordance with the laws as set forth in Chapter 719 of the Acts of 1913, so that the whole loan shall be paid in not more than five years from the date of issue of the first note, or at such earlier dates as the treas- urer and selectmen may determine.


You are directed to serve this warrant by posting attested copies thereof in three public places in each Precinct in said Town of Braintree, seven days at least before said 13th day of December, 1920, and by publishing the same once in the Brain- tree Observer.


Hereof, fail not, and make due returns of this warrant with your doings thereon, to the Town Clerk before the said meeting.

SPECIAL TOWN MEETING


Braintree, Dec. 13, 1920.


The Town met in accordance with the foregoing warrant. The meeting was called at 7.45 o'clock P. M., by the Town Clerk, and the warrant and the officer's return of the same read.


Article 1. By ballot the meeting made choice of William F. Rogers for Moderator.


Voted, on motion of Mr. Kelley, that Article 2 be con- sidered in connection with all other articles.


Article 10 and 11. Referred to next Annual Meeting.


Article 12. Voted that the Selectmen be and are hereby authorized to petition the legislation for such additional rights and powers as is in their judgment necessary in relation to the construction of a sewerage system.


Article 13. Voted unanimously to amend the vote passed under Article 3 of the warrant for the special town meeting held on July 7, 1920 to read as follows :


That the sum of $15,000 be appropriated for the purchase of and the original equipment and furnishing of portable schoolhouses ; and that $2500 be raised by taxation in the cur- rent year, and that the Treasurer with the approval of the Selectmen be and hereby is authorized to borrow the sum of $12,500 and to issue a note or notes of the Town therefor, said note or notes to be payable in accordance with the laws as set forth in Chapter 719 of the Acts of 1913, so that the whole loan shall be paid in not more than five years from the date of issue of the first note or at such earlier dates as the Treas- urer and Selectmen may determine.


Article 2. Report of the Schoolhousing Committee pre- sented and read by Henry N. Longley, Secretary ; also a screen display of plans for a proposed High School Building.


Recommendation of the Appropriation Committee pre- sented and read by William P. Kelley, Chairman.


The following motion was offered by Mr. Kelley :


That the report of the Housing Committee be received as progressive, that the same be recommitted to the committee and that said committee be and hereby are instructed to prepare tentative plans and specifications, obtain tentative bids thereon and submit a detailed statement showing the probable cost of the recommendations contained in its report and the sugges- tions contained in this report of the committee on appropria- tions ; that the committee report its findings to the Appropria- tion Committee on or before February 15, 1921.


That the town raise and appropriate the sum of $5000 for the purpose of defraying the expense of carrying out these in- structions.


That the selectmen be and hereby are authorized and in-

structed to petition the legislature for the right to borrow out- side the debt limit an additional sum of $200,000 for such school purposes. Carried.


At 11.10 o'clock P. M. meeting was adjourned, sine die. A true record. Attest :
