RESOLVED : That it is the sense of this meeting that in all construction work undertaken by the Town during 1933, preference for employment be given to residents of Braintree, provided that. such applicants be qualified to work at such employment as may be available. So voted.


Mr. Templeton offered the following resolution : That the sewer commission of the Town of Braintree be, and is hereby instructed to employ citizens of the Town of Braintree on all sewer work. And that the

Engineering and highway departments of the Town of Braintree be given authority to direct and assist in the construction of said sewer. It is to be understood that the present personnel of the above departments. be employed on said project. So voted 11:55.

WARRANT FOR SPECIAL STATE ELECTION THE COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS

Greetings :


In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachu- setts, you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of the Town of Braintree, qualified to vote in elections therein, to meet at the polling places in their respective Precincts, to wit:


Polling Place in Precinct 1, Town Hall


Polling l'lace in Precinct 2, Legion Building, Hol- lis Avenue


Polling Place in Precinct 3, Hose House, Allen Street.


On Tuesday, the thirteenth day of June, 1933, at three o'clock in the afternoon, then and there to bring in to the Wardens of their respective Precincts, their votes on the official ballot for the Election of Delegates to a Constitutional Convention called to Ratify or Re- ject the following Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, proposed by Joint Resolution of Congress.


TEXT OF THE PROPOSED AMENDMENT


"SECTION 1. The eighteenth article of amend- ment to the Constitution of the United States is hereby repealed.

"Section 2. The transportation or importation! into any State, Territory, or possession of the United' States for delivery or use therein of intoxicating liq -- uors, in violation of the laws thereof, is hereby pro- hibited.


"SECTION 3. This article shall be inoperative unless it shall have been ratified as an amendment to. the Constitution by conventions in the several States, as provided in the Constitution, within seven years from the date of the submission hereof to the States: by the Congress."


Also, to vote on the following question on the same ballot :


"Shall licenses be granted in this town for the. sale therein of wines and malt beverages?"


And the polls will be closed at eight o'clock in: the evening.


You are directed to serve this warrant by posting true and attested copies thereof in three public places. in each precinct in said Town of Braintree, ten days at least before said thirteenth day of June, 1933, and by publishing the same once each week for two suc- cessive weeks in the Braintree Citizen, first publica- tion to be at least eight days before said meeting.

In accordance with the foregoing warrant, the voters of the Town of Braintree assembled in their several Precincts to cast their ballots for the election of three delegates to a Constitutional Convention called to Ratify or Reject the above mentioned Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, proposed by joint Resolution of Congress also to vote YES or NO on the following question : "Shall licenses be granted in this Town for the sale therein of wines. and malt beverages?"

Greeting :


In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachu- setts, you are hereby directed to notify and warn the inhabitants of the Town of Braintree, qualified to vote in Town affairs, to meet at the Town Hall, in said Braintree.


On Monday, the twenty-seventh day of November 1933, at seven forty-five o'clock in the evening, to act on the following articles, namely :


Article 1. To see if the Town will vote in acord- ance with Section 7, Chapter 17 of the Acts of 1930, and the provisions of General Laws, Chapter 83 and the Amendments thereto, what proportion of the esti- mated cost of its system or systems of sewerage and sewage disposal the Town will pay, or take any action relative thereto.


Article 2. To see if the Town will vote in ac- cordance with Section 7, Chapter 17 of the Acts of 1930, and the provisions of General Laws, Chapter 83 and the Amendments thereto, by which of such methods the remaining portion of the estimated cost of the Town's system or systems of sewerage and sew- age disposal shall be provided for, or take any action relative thereto.


Article 3. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money for a sewer house connection working fund, or take any action relative thereto.


Article 4. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money, to be expended un- der the direction of the Sewer Commissioners, in ac-

cordance with the provisions of Chapter 17 of the Acts of 1930, for the construction of sewers for sanitary purposes, and authorize the Selectmen to petition the Federal Government for a grant of money under the National Industrial Recovery Act, and accept grant, and to provide by borrowing or otherwise, any sum of money that is required to be raised by the Town for completing said project, or take any action rela- tive thereto.


Article 5. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money to be expended under the direction of the School Committee for the purpose of constructing, furnishing and equipping an addition to the High School, and for the making of necessary additions and alterations to the present building inci- dental thereto; and authorize the Selectmen to peti- tion the Federal Government for a grant of money under the National Industrial Recovery Act and ac- cept such grant; and to provide by borrowing or other- wise, any sum of money that is required to be raised by the Town for completing said project, or take any action relative thereto.


Article 6. To see if the Town will vote to accept ARGYLE ROAD, from Gordon Road to Trefton Drive, as laid out by the Board of Survey, and raise and ap- propriate a sum of money for the improvement of said way, or take any action relative thereto.


You are directed to serve this warrant by post- ing true and attested copies thereof in three public places in each voting precinct in said Town of Brain- tree, ten days at least before said twenty-seventh day of November 1933, and by publishing the same once in each week for two successive weeks in the Brain-

SPECIAL TOWN MEETING


November 27, 1933.


A Special Town Meeting was called to order at 7:50 P. M. by Moderator William F. Rogers. Voters checked.


ARTICLE 1. Mr. Grady moved: That in ac- cordance with Section 7, Chapter 17 of the Acts of 1930, and the provisions of General Laws Chapter 83 and the Amendments thereto, the Town shall pay forty (40) per cent of the estimated cost of its system or systems of sewerage and sewage disposal.


Mr. Young offered the following Amendment: That the Town Tax Levy absorb only 25% of the cost of the sewer instead of 40%.

Assessments shall be made upon owners of the land according to the frontage of such land on any way in which a sewer is constructed at the rate of one dollar ($1.00) per linear foot of such frontage, and according to the area of such land within a fixed depth of one hundred (100) feet from such way at the rate of one cent ($0.01) per square foot of such area, these rates having been found and determined to be each one-half (1/2) of the estimated remaining" cost.


Mr. Foley offered the following Amendment: Strike out the words-one dollar ($1.00) and insert sixty cents ($0.60) and strike out the words one cent: ($0.01) and insert one mill ($0.001). Not carried. 9:10.
