Upon receipt of petition for a recount of the ballots cast at the Annual Town Election for the Office of Selectman and Office of Town meeting Members in Precinct 1A, 1B and 2 a meeting of the Board of Registrars was held at the Town Hall, March 10, 1959 at 10:30 A. M. for the purpose of examining said petitions and certifying the names of ten or more registered voters in each voting precinct in conformity with Chapter 54, Section 135 of the General Laws.


After examination of said petition, which were found to be in proper order, it was unanimously voted that the registrars be in ses-

sion on March 13, 1959 at 9:30 A. M. at the Town Hall for the pur- pose of conducting a recount of the ballots cast at the Annual Town Election for the Office of Selectman and Office of Town Meeting Members in Precincts 1A, 1B and 2.

TOWN OF BRAINTREE Special Town Meeting


MONDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 1959


Pursuant to a Warrant duly issued, the Special Town Meeting of the inhabitants of the Town of Braintree, represented by their duly elected and qualified Town Meeting Members, was held in the Braintree Town Hall on Monday, February 2, 1959.


The meeting was called to order at 7:50 o'clock in the evening by the Moderator, Mr. E. Curtiss Mower.


There were no Town Meeting Members to be sworn in.


There were 185 Town Meeting Members present.


The Moderator declared a quorum present.


The following tellers were appointed by the Moderator to serve during the course of the evening :

To authorize and direct the Selectmen, to purchase or take by eminent domain for school purposes, a parcel of land containing ap- proximately fifty (50) acres of land and access ways as shown on plan No. 737, dated January 30, 1959 titled "1959 School Site Lot," Harold C. Pearl, Town Engineer, and to appropriate and transfer from available funds, the sum of FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS ($50,000.00) to be awarded as compensation therefor.

That this Town Meeting go on record as approving the building of an additional High School of approximately 1100 pupil capacity at a new site.


Further discussion ensued involving Mr. Barrett, Mr. Ainsleigh, Mr. Arnold, Mr. Morrison, Mr. Proctor, Mr. Chiesa and Mr. Canavan.


Comes now the question on the motion by Mr. Barrett. Vote was taken and the Moderator declared the motion by Mr. Barrett LOST. (8:42 P. M.)


ARTICLE 2. Preparation of plans for the construction of an additional secondary school or schools.


MOVED by Mr. Fletcher :


To raise, appropriate and transfer from available funds the sum of One Hundred Thousand Dollars (100,- 000.00) to be expended under the control of the High School Addition Building Committee, appointed pursuant to vote of the 1958 Annual Town Meeting, for the pur- pose of employing architects, preparing plans, specifica- tions, drawings, and reports, and securing bids for the construction of a Junior High School.

SO VOTED (9:06) : That the sum of $4,700.00 be appropriated and transferred from available funds which together with the proceeds of the turn-in sale of 2 - 1957 Chevrolet Station Wagons, which sale is hereby author- ized shall be used for the purchase at 2 - 1959 Station Wagon cars for the Police Department. Move that the sum of $1,850.00 be appropriated and transferred from available funds which together with the proceeds of the turn-in sale of a 1957 2-door Chevrolet Sedan which sale is hereby authorized, shall be used for the pur- chase of a 1959 2-door Sedan car for the Police Depart- ment.

M.) : That the sum of $1,500.00 be appropriated and transferred from the Ambulance Reserve Account and that this sum together with the $8,100.00 previously appropriated for the purpose to- gether with the proceeds of the turn-in sale of the present 1950 ambulance, which sale is hereby authorized, be used for the purchase of 1 new ambulance.

Add after the words, "Town of Weymouth," the sum of $4,726.80 for unpaid bill for street lighting and $132.60 for Police and Fire Departments.
