315 new cards have been issued during the year, making a total registration of 3,720. Since the age limit was re- moved last year many children under ten have taken cards.

PICTURE AND SCHOOL EXHIBITS.
As in former years pictures have been received about once in three weeks from the Library Art Club.
Since June a room up stairs has been given to the exhibit of school work, in place of the bulletin board in the deliv- ery hall. This exhibit was a part of that given in Town hall, and has since been changed for the fall work. Much interest is shown in this exhibition.

REFERENCE AND READING ROOM.
36 new volumes have been added to this department. The work here has increased the past year, partly owing to the debates taken part in by the high school scholars. The in- dex to periodical literature has proved of great value in this work, supplementing Poole's index.
The year has been a prosperous one in many ways, though not as large in circulation as the two previous ones. Miss Sarah Kingman has been added to the library staff, and has assisted as needed.
Respectfully submitted,
ALICE M. ALDEN,
Librarian.

There are eleven burial places where these heroes of the Revolutionary War were committed to their last resting place. Many of them more than a century ago. Each soldier"came to be a reality as first their name was found by enlistment, then their service by the aid of the "Soldiers and Sailors of the Revolutionary War" in our Public Library, and then through the kindness of Mr. Charles Thatcher from the rec- ords he has made of the inscriptions on the gravestones up to 1850 in all the cemeteries in town, to find their resting place, the name on many stones being almost illegible, then set- ting the "Marker" where we thought it belonged. I appreciated more than ever before what was accomplished for our country by the soldiers of the Continental Army. We live in a free country, made so by the soldiers of the Continental Army.
Mrs. Charlotte Ellis gave the use of her horse and carriage for the work, and we placed some of the "Markers" ourselves, but the work was' too arduous as a whole, and were obliged to hire a man to assist us.
One hundred and thirty-six "Markers" have been placed in these eleven cemeteries.

Chairman of Committee.
