It was voted that this report be accepted.


Article 5 :- To see if the town will appropriate money for band concerts the coming season, and act thereon.


The sum of $300.00 was voted under appropriation.


Article 6 :- To see if the town will appropriate money to be expended by Post 8, G. A. R. on Memorial Day, and act thereon.


The sum of $200.00 was voted under appropriations.


Article 7 :- To see if the town will vote to appropriate a sum of money necessary to pay the rent of a suitable place for the Post of the Grand Army of the Republic, and act thereon.


The sum of $283.33 was voted under appropriations.


Article 8 :- To see if the town will vote to appropriate a sum of money not exceeding five hundred ($500) dollars, to be paid to St. Luke's hospital, established in said town, for the establishment and maintenance of a free bed in the hospital for the care and treatment of persons certified by the selectmen of said town to be residents of the town and unable to pay for such care and treatment, and act thereon.


The sum of $500.00 was voted under appropriations.


Article 9 :- To see if the town will appropriate a sum of money not to exceed two hundred and fifty ($250) dollars, for the use of the Trustees, Plymouth County Aid to Agri- culture, and act thereon.


The sum of $250.00 was voted under appropriations.


Article 10 :- To see if the town will appropriate a sum of money for the employment of a school and public health nurse and act thereon.


The sum of $1,500.00 was voted under appropriations.


Article 11 :- To see if the town will vote to improve its street lighting system, appropriate money therefor, and act thereon.

Article 12 :- To see if the town will vote to continue the Christmas street lighting, appropriate money for the same, and act thereon.


Voted: that the town appropriate three hundred ($300) dollars to continue the Christmas street lighting.


Article 13 :- To see if the town will appropriate fifteen hundred ($1,500) dollars, to be spent under the direction of the selectmen, provided the State or the State and County will assist financially in completing the graveling of Smith Street, and act thereon.


Voted: to appropriate the sum of fifteen hundred ($1500) dollars to be spent under the direction of the selectmen, pro- viding the State or the State and County will assist finan- cially in completing the graveling of Smith Street.


Article 14 :- To see if the town will appropriate a sum of money not to exceed two thousand ($2000) dollars, to com- plete the walks and grading around the new High school, and act thereon.

Article 15 :- To see if the town will appropriate a sum of money not to exceed four hundred ($400) dollars for paint- ing the outside of the new High school one coat, and act thereon.

Article 16 :- To see if the town will appropriate a sum of money not to exceed one thousand ($1000) dollars, to be spent under the direction of the Selectmen, for making a plan for the future development of the North Main Street park and playground, and act thereon.


Voted: to indefinitely postpone action on this article.


Article 17 :- To see if the town will appropriate a sum of money not to exceed three hundred ($300) dollars, to be

spent under the direction of the Planning Board, for the pur- pose of studying the parking problem, and act thereon.


Voted: that the Planning Board study the Parking pro- blem, an amendment cancelled the appropriating $300.00 for the investigation.


Article 18 :- To see if the town will appropriate a sum of money not to exceed one thousand ($1000) dollars for paint- ing the Town House, and act thereon.


Voted: that the town appropriate the sum of one thou- sand ($1000) dollars to be used in painting the Town House.


Article 19 :- To see what action the town will take, if any, for authority to establish a limited or representative form of town meeting, appoint a committee for that purpose, and act thereon.


Voted: to indefinitely postpone action on this article.


Article 20 :- To see if the town will vote to change the name of Alms Street to that of Bridge street, and act thereon.


Voted: that the town change the name of Alms street to Bridge street.


Article 21 :- To see if the town will vote to authorize the Selectmen to sell the France school house and lot, and act thereon.


Voted: that the town vote to authorize the selectmen to sell the France school house and lot at private sale or public auction and that the Town Treasurer in the name and behalf of the town of Middleboro be authorized to give a deed of the above premises and to affix the corporate seal thereto.


Article 22: To see if the town will vote to authorize the selectmen to sell the Highland school house and lot, and act thereon.


Voted: that the town vote to authorize the Selectmen to sell the Highland school house and lot at private sale or public auction and that the Town Treasurer in the name and behalf of the town of Middleboro be authorized to give a deed of the above premises and to affix the corporate seal thereto.

Article 23 :- To see if the town will vote to discontinue that portion of Barden Hill Road which is bounded on both sides by land now owned by the town, and act thereon.


Voted: that Barden Hill road be continued a public highway.


Article 24 :- To see if the town will vote a sum of money not to exceed four thousand ($4000.) dollars, to be spent under the direction of the selectmen, for the purpose of be- ginning a general scheme for the mapping of the whole town for the use of the various departments of the town, and act thereon.


Voted: to indefinitely postpone action on this article.


Article 25 :- To see if the town will vote a sum of money not to exceed six hundred eighty eight ($688.60) dollars and sixty cents for the purpose of paying land damages in con- nection with the widening of Miller street, and act thereon.


Voted: that the town appropriate the sum of six hundred eighty eight ($688.60) dollars and sixty cents to pay the land damage in connection with the widening of Miller street.


Article 26 :- To see if the town will vote to cancel author- ity voted at an adjourned town meeting held Feb. 15, 1926, to issue bonds or notes of the town in the sum of thirty seven thousand ($37,000.) dollars, as a Municipal Gas & Electric Department loan; the same being a portion of an issue of notes and bonds of the town in the sum of fifty thousand ($50,000) dollars, authorized at said meeting held Feb. 15, 1926, leaving the amount of said Municipal Gas & Electric Department loan as duly authorized of thirteen thousand ($13,000) dollars.


Voted: that the town vote to cancel authority voted at an adjourned town meeting held Feb. 15th, 1926 to issue bonds or notes of the town in the sum of thirty seven thou- sand ($37,000) dollars as a Municipal Gas & Electric De- partment loan, the same being a portion of an issue of notes and bonds of the town in the sum of fifty thousand ($50,000) dollars, authorized at said meeting held Feb. 15th 1926 leav- ing the amount of said Municipal Gas & Electric Department

Article 27 :- To see if the town will vote to cancel author- ity voted at an adjourned meeting held Feb. 19, 1923 to issue bonds or notes of the town in the sum of thirty one thousand ($31,000.) dollars, as a Municipal Gas & Electric Department loan, the same being the total of the amount voted at said meeting held February 19, 1923.


Voted: that the town vote to cancel authority voted at an adjourned meeting held Feb. 19th, 1923 to issue bonds or notes of the town in the sum of thirty one thousand ($31,000) dollars as Municipal Gas & Electric Department loan, the same being the total of the amount voted at said meeting held February 19, 1923.


Article 28 :- To see if the town will vote to appropriate a sum of money not to exceed ten thousand five hundred ($10,500) dollars, for the purchase of a new seven hundred and fifty (750) gallon triple combination fire truck, and act thereon.


Voted: that the town appropriate the sum of ten thous- and five hundred ($10,500) dollars for the purchase of a seven hundred fifty (750) gallon Triple Combination Pump- ing Unit, and that for this purpose there be included in the tax levy of the current year, the sum of twenty five hundred ($2500) dollars and that the town borrow an additional sum of eight thousand ($8,000) dollars and that the selectmen be authorized to issue bonds or notes of the town therefor, said bonds or notes with interest thereon to be paid within five years from the date of the first bond or note. The vote was Yes 402, No 28.


Voted: that whereas it appears that an interest exists on the part of the Fire Chief, whose duty it is to make contracts for the purchase of all fire apparatus in behalf of the town, it is moved that the Selectmen be duly authorized by the town to make a contract in behalf of the town for the pur- chase of a Triple Combination Pumping Unit. Said pur- chase being authorized by vote of the town at the adjourned meeting held on February 1928.

Article 29 :- To see if the town will vote to authorize the selectmen to place all the electric wires of the Gas & Electric Department on Wareham and Centre streets be- tween Clifford street and Oak street and on South Main street, and North Main street between Nickerson Avenue and the new fire station, underground; install a new system of street lighting covering the above streets and extending to Everett square and make such other improvements in connection therewith as in their judgment are required, ap- propriate and raise money for the same by loan or otherwise, the payment of such loan to be made from the income of said department, and act thereon.


Voted: that the sum of thirty thousand ($30,000) dollars, which has been paid to the town of Middleborough by the cities of Taunton, Fall River and New Bedford as damages for the taking of the waters of Lake Assawampsett and its tributaries thereto, which sum is now deposited in Middle- borough Savings Bank and Middleborough Trust Company together with the accrued interest thereon, be transferred to the depreciation account of the Middleboro Gas & Elec- tric Department and that this sum together with fifteen thousand ($15,000) dollars, the same to be borrowed on bonds or notes of the town, be used for the purposes as set forth in article 29 and that the selectmen be authorized to issue notes or bonds of the town in the sum of fifteen thous- and ($15,000) dollars therefor, said bonds or notes with interest thereon to be paid within twenty (20) years from the date of the first bond or note, and to be paid from the income of the Gas & Electric Department, and that the selectmen be and hereby are authorized to carry out the ex- tensions and improvements in the manner as are specifically set forth in article 29 of the current town warrant.


The chair ruled that this was more than a two-thirds vote and no one doubted the decision of the chair.


Article 30 :- To see if the town will vote to convert un- used public lands into town forests, including lot A at the corner of Acorn and East Grove street, containing about

eight acres; lot B on Chestnut street, containing about fifteen acres; lot C at the junction of Brook and Plympton streets, containing about one acre, appropriate a sum of money for improvement and reforestation not to exceed two hundred ($200) dollars, and act thereon.


Voted: that the town vote to convert the unused public lands into town forests including lot A at the corner of Acorn and East Grove streets containing about eight acres, lot B on Chestnut street, containing about fifteen acres, lot C at the junction of Brook and Plympton streets, containing about one acre, appropriate the sum of two hundred ($200) dollars for the improvement and reforestation of the above named lots.


Article 31 :- To see if the town will vote to appropriate a sum of money not to exceed thirty five hundred ($3500) dollars for the purpose of installing a repeater in connection with the fire alarm system, and act thereon.


Voted that the town appropriate the sum of thirty-five hundred ($3500) dollars for the purpose of installing a re- peater in connection with the fire alarm system.


Article 32 :- To see if the town will authorize and instruct the Selectmen and Chief of the Fire Department to adopt and put in operation the so-called "one day in three" system in the Middleboro Fire Department, appropriate money for the same, and act thereon. (By request)


The Selectmen recommend that this be postponed.


The following committee of three was appointed from the floor-David R. Walker, Lelah Hathaway and Frank S. Thomas. This committee was appointed for purpose of in- vestigating the matters included in this article and report at an adjournment of this meeting or to the Selectmen.

Special Town Meeting April 30th, 1928 and adjournment


Article 1 :- To see if the town will appropriate a sum of money not to exceed five thousand ($5,000) dollars for the purpose of widening, altering, changing or improving the junction or intersection of all streets entering Everett Square so-called in accordance with plans on file in the office of the town clerk and in accordance with a decree issued by the Plymouth County Commissioners, and act thereon.


There being less than a quorum present on April 30th., the meeting was adjourned to May 7th without transacting any business.


May 7th, 1928


Article 1 :. The recommendation of the Board of Select- men to appropriate five thousand dollars for Everett Square was read.


Voted: that the town appropriate the sum of five thous- and ($5,000) dollars for the purpose contained in article 1, and that this sum be taken from the Excess & Deficiency account.


Article 2 :- To hear the report of any committee or officer of the town, to appoint any committee, and act thereon.
