Conclusion

We are equipped with two cruisers and a combination ambulance and patrol wagon and a private concern has handled the majority of all our motor vehicle accident calls for ambulance service to remove in- jured to hospital. This setup has made it possible for officers investi- gating accidents to clean up their investigation at the scene and to clear up the area where accident took place and then go to hospital and get the necessary data on the injured. In the past it was necessary for two officers to man the patrol ambulance, go to scene, pick up the injured and take them to the hospital and then return to scene of accident. This often times left the scene of the accident without any officer to handle traffic and cars involved would be in such positions as to be a menace to the users of the highways.

Ninety three adults were injured in motor vehicle accidents, of which two of these were pedestrians. Thirty-three children were in- jured of which seven were pedestrians. There were six persons killed in motor vehicle accidents of which three were pedestrians, two adults and one child.

Four of the fatal accidents occurred on Route 28, three were pas- sengers in cars and one was a pedestrian. One child was killed while playing in a cardboard box on Arch St. and one pedestrian was killed on Spruce Street. This was Middleborough's largest number of fatalities for past ten years.
