REPORT OF THE OVERSEERS OF THE POOR.


THE Board contracted with Mr. Josiah Litchfield, to be Superin- tendent of the Almshouse and Town Farm, the last,-year compensation $175,-and his year will expire on the first day of April next.


This account is made up for one year in full to February 1st, 1854.


The number of Paupers at the House the commencement of the year was 24; the whole number during the year was 52; the average, 26 and the number at this time is 29. There have been four deaths at the House the last year, viz. : Hannah Stetson, aged 71 years; Patrick White, 32 years ; Mary White, 2 years ; and George Williams, about 18 years.


The charge to the State for support of Paupers, up to the first day of November last, was $108 57.


The net expense to the Town for support of Paupers in the House is, $1,455 46. In this reckoning we allow the Town $300 for the use of the Farm, and the master of the House his salary. The expense of each Pauper per week is $1 07 and 8 mills.


The expense to the Town for support of the town's Poor, out of the House, during the last year is $530 80, and we have paid old bill for expenses previous to last year the value of $109 75.


The charge of Overseers for their services, postage, stationery, travel- ling expenses, &c., is $73 83.


The expense for support of Poor out of the House being mostly foreigners, and State Paupers, is $114 02.
