REPORT


OF THE


OVERSEERS OF THE POOR.


The Overseers of the Poor ask leave to make the following Report, the account of which is made up to the first day of February last :-


The number of paupers at the almshouse, at the com- mencement of the year, was seventeen ; whole number during the year, twenty-eight, the average, twenty and three-quar- ters, and the number at the ending of the year, nineteen.


Net expense of the town for the support of poor at the house, $1,400.65, allowing the town $300 for rent of the farm, and the Superintendent his salary of $200.


The expense of each pauper per week, $1.292, the charge to the State, $8.20. There have been four deaths at the house the past year, viz .: Elisha Holbrook, aged 79 years, Deborah Vining, aged 91 years, Joseph H. Hunt, aged 23 years, and a female child of Hannah Curly, left at the house, and neg- lected by its mother, aged 3 weeks.


The expense to the town for support of poor out of the house, amounted to $735.29, about $130 of which was paid for old bills previous to last year, and there are outstanding bills for the last year to the amount of about $75, which have not been settled.


The charges of the Overseers, for their services, postage, stationery, travelling expenses, &c., is $81.12.


Having deemed it necessary, we have erected a new gran- ary on the premises, at a cost of $100; we have also ex- pended, for repairs on the wood-house, about $13.


The principal products of the farm, the last year, were about twelve tons of English hay, 140 bushels of corn, 600

bushels of carrots, 200 bushels of potatoes, and 15 bushels of barley. We have also raised about 1,700 pounds of pork, and 600 pounds of beef.
