Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4
The number of paupers in the house at the commencement of the year was nineteen ; the whole number during the year, thirty; the average, eighteen and three-fourths; the number at the close of the year, twenty-five.
The whole sum drawn from the Treasury, for the support of the poor in the house, including the salary of the Superintendent, has been thirteen hundred and ninety-three dollars and thirty-five cents. We have allowed the town three hundred dollars for the use of the farm, making the whole cost of the poor in the house twelve hundred and ninety-cight dollars and eighty-five cents.
We have received of the town, for labor on roads, one thousand dollars, and have paid for labor on roads, four hundred and twenty- five dollars. The extra expense for teams, etc., would amount to about one hundred and twenty-five dollars, leaving a net profit to the town of four hundred and fifty dollars, which makes the cost forty-six cents per week less for support of each pauper.
24
'The amount charged by the Overseers for their services, postage, travelling expenses, etc., has been one hundred and thirty-six dollars and seventy-five cents.
The expense of each pauper per weck has been one dollar and thirty-three cents" and three mills.
There have been two deaths in the house the past year, viz : Levesta Groves died Feb. 5th, 1864, aged 43 years; and Deborah Pratt, June 27th, aged 78 years.
The expense of the poor out of the house amounts to thirteen hundred and forty-five dollars and forty-four cents. Three hundred and ninety-one dollars of the above was paid to the State Lunatic Hospitals, at Worcester and Taunton, and we have received of the town of East Bridgewater, for support of paupers, thirty-two dollars ; which, with that paid at the hospitals deducted from the above amounts, leaves a balance for the actual cost of the poor out of the house, nine hundred and twenty-two dollars and forty-four cents.
