REPORT OF THE OVERSEERS OF THE POOR.

The Overseers of the Poor of the Town of Weymouth respectfully submit the following Report for the year ending December 31, 1874 : -

Mr. Wilbur C. Austin and wife have continued in charge of the Almshouse Establishment during the past year at a salary of five hundred dollars.

The overseers have been well satisfied with the manner in which their duties as master and matron have been performed. The inmates of the house have been properly cared for, and the farm kept in a good state of cultivation without any expenditure for hired labor, and in addition a considerable sum has been earned by labor on road.

The only death in the house during the year occurred on the same day on which the pauper was admitted, and very little sickness requir- ing the attendance of a physician has been experienced.

The number of those supported in the Almshouse has been twenty- three, and one half per cent in excess of the number maintained there last year; but this increase of number has added but slightly to the total cost, thus confirming the opinion expressed in last year's report that it is more economical to support those who are mainly dependent upon the town, in the Almshouse than by out-door relief.

The whole number of paupers in the Almshouse during the year has been thirty-one, exclusive of transient inmates ; the average number twenty-one, and the number at its close is twenty-one.

The cost of support for each pauper has been one dollar and fifty- eight cents per week.
