To the Citizens of Dighton :-

The school committee takes pleasure in presenting to you at this time the usual annual report. It consists for the most part of the reports of the superintendent of schools, music and drawing supervisors, and of the truant officer, together with a number of tables of statistics, to all of which we respectfully call your attention.

For the support of the schools during the year 1908 we request the appropriation of $6850 to be expended as the committee sees fit, but about as follows :--

400 00

400 00

High school transportation

500 00

Respectfully submitted for the committee,

E. E. LINCOLN, Chairman.

A. W. TURNER, Secretary.

ANNUAL REPORT.

Superintendent's Report.

To the School Committee of Dighton :

Gentlemen :- I have the honor of presenting to you at this time my second annual report. It consists of a brief consid- eration of the statistics of enrolment and attendance and of a discussion of several of the more prominent phases of the work of the schools. It includes also a number of recommendations which I trust will meet with your approval.

ENROLMENT AND ATTENDANCE.

A comparison of the statistics for the school year ending last June with those of the previous year shows a gain of but 5 in the average enrolment or membership, the increase being from 309 to 314. The present enrolment of the schools is 295, 9 less than the average for last year. The loss, however, has been mainly in the rural schools, for all the rooms at the north and south villages, with the exception of the North Intermediate, have a larger enrolment than they had at this time last year.
