At the annual town meeting held March 2d, 1908, Nathan O. Walker, D. Thurber Wood, Jr., Willard J. Reed, William E. Walker, and George T. Horton were appointed as tellers. Charles S. Chase was elected moderator.

Herbert A. Briggs, Charles S. Chase and John W. Earle were chosen a committee to investigate and report as to the advisability and proper method of building some macadam road in conjunction with the State Highway Commission.
Voted that the compensation for labor on the Highway be for a man one dollar and seventy-five cents for nine hours work, for other labor same as last year which was, for a horse 12 1-2 cents per hour, for cart 2 1-2 cents per hour, for horse and cart 15 cents per hour or $1.50 for ten hours, for yoke of oxen and cart 20 cents per hour or $2.00 for ten hours, for double team of horses $2.75 per day or $1.25 for each horse, for shoveling snow 20 cents per hour.
The committee on the expenditure of money on macadam roads reported by reading an opinion from two of the leading attorneys of Taunton that the town was not liable for the amount expended in excess of $10,000. These opinions are now on file with the Town Clerk.
Voted to raise and appropriate seven hundred and twenty four and 19 dollars to reimburse the committe on macadam roads for amounts which they had paid out in excess of the appropriation of $10,000.
The reports of the Town Officers were accepted with the exception of the Road Commissioner's Report.
Voted the compensation of the Tax Callector be 1% of all legally assessed taxes.

Voted the compensation of the Treasurer be one hundred dollars.
Voted that for the purpose of procuring a temporary loan to and for the use of the Town of Dighton in anticipation of the taxes for the present municipal year the Town Treasurer is hereby authorized and directed to borrow from time to time with the approval of a majority of the Selectmen, a sum or sums not exceeding in the aggregate eight thousand dollars, and to execute and deliver the note or notes of the Town therefor payable within one year from the time the loan is made. Any debts incurred by a loan or loans to the Town un- der this vote shall be paid from the said taxes of the present municipal year.
(It was voted at a later meeting to increase this amount to ten thousand dollars.)
Voted to instruct the Overseers of the Poor, to hire a Town Physician and a Supt. of Almshouse for the year suc- ceeding their term of office.
Voted to accept the provisions of Chapter 560, Sec. 367 of the Acts of 1907 to take effect at the annual Town meeting in March 1909, which is to choose one Selectman for 3 years, one for 2 years, and one for 1 year, every year after 1909 to choose one Selectman for 3 years.
Voted that the Town Officers be required to furnish bonds from some bond company allowed to do business in the Com- mon wealth, and that the Town pay for said bonds.
The vote on the license question resulted as follows : Yes, fifty one; No, one hundred and twenty.
At the adjourned annual meeting held April 4th, voted to take $100. from the dog fund and to raise and appropriate $100 by taxation for the Public Library.
At the Town meeting June 6th, 1908, Charles S. Chase was chosen moderator.

Voted to authorize the Selectmen to waive the Town rights to build a section of macadam road under Sec. 10 of Chapter 47 of the Revised Laws.
Voted to authorize the Selectmen to purchase equipment suitable for the sealer of weights and measures and to raise and appropriate $100. to pay for same.
Voted to empower and authorize the Selectmen to execute a bond to indemnify the Commonwealth against damage by the taking of land or change of grade by building a state highway on Somerset Ave.
Voted that this vote shall apply to the building of state highway this year only.
The Southern Mass. Telephone Co. were authorized to erect poles and wires on Summer St., from School St. to the Taunton line, School St. from Lincoln Ave. to Summer St.
Permission was granted the Mt. Hope Finishing Co. to lay water pipes from the corner of Mt. Hope Lane on Spring St. westerly to Summer St.
The Annual State and National election was held Tuesday Nov. 3, 1908.
Nathan O. Walker and Henry E. Williams were appointed Ballot clerks, Silas H. Whelden, Francis Waldron, Albert N. Goff, and William E. Walker, appointed tellers. The ballots having been assorted and counted the result was declared as follows :
