ANNUAL REPORT


On Monday afternoons from 3.30 to 4.30 during November and December, Mrs. A. S. Varney kindly gave her services to the Library, entertaining 'the children with story telling with an average attendance of 70.


The Massachusetts Library Commission has loaned the Library a collection of books written in the Portuguese language and the Amherst College Extension has also loaned us a collection of 30 books on Agriculture. Both collections have been well circulated.

TOWN CLERK'S REPORT


At a special town meeting held Jan. 9, 1915, it was voted to authorize the Treasurer to borrow money in anticipation of revenue.


At the same meeting it was voted to elect by the aus- tralian system the following list of town officers, said list of officers to be elected at the annual meeting of each year unless changed by vote of the Town.


A Town Clerk every third year beginning with 1917.


One Selectman for three years.


One Overseer of Poor for three years.


Two School Committee for three years.


A Treasurer for one year. One Assessor for three years.


A Collector of taxes for one year.


An Auditor for one year.


Three Highway Surveyors for one year.


A Tree Warden for one year.


A Trustee of Public Library for three years. Three Fish Wardens for one year.


Three Oyster Wardens for one year.


Nine Constables for one year all on one ballot.


Charles S. Chase was elected Moderator.


The Annual Town Meeting was held Monday, March 1st, 1915.

Henry E. Williams and George T. Horton were chosen ballot Clerks.


Arthur A. Hathaway, James E. McCabe, D. Thurber Wood Jr., and Henry I. Potter were chosen Tellers.


Charles S. Chase was elected Moderator with D. Thur- ber Wood Jr. as Moderator pro tem to act in absence of Chas. S. Chase.


Voted to take up article 2 and proceed to ballot for a Selectman for three years. An Overseer of Poor for three years. Two School Committee for three years. A Treasurer for one year. Three Highway Surveyors for one year. An Assessor for three years. A Tax Collector for one year. A Tree Warden for one year. An Auditor or one year. A Trustee of Public Library for three years. Three Fish Wardens for one year. Three Oyster Wardens for one year and nine Constables for one year all on one ballot and to vote yes or no on the question shall license be granted for the sale of intoxicating liquors.


The polls were opened at 9.3 O'clock A. M. and closed at 1.46 O'clock P. M. The ballots having been assorted and counted the result was declared as follows: Whole number of votes 302.

$25 to be expended by D. D. Andrews; $25 by James H. Luther and $10 by Mrs. Della Butler.


Voted to appropriate $3000 to pay the Pedo Baptist Congregational Society for land damages caused by the layout of the State Highway at the corner of Main and Pleasant Streets as awarded by the Mass. Highway Com- mission and to provide for the payment of this appropri- ation, the Town Treasurer is hereby authorized and di- rected with the approval of the Selectmen to borrow the sum of Three Thousand dollars and to issue three notes of the Town therefor of $1,000 each, the first note payable Nov.1, 1915 and one on Nov. 1st of each year until all are paid.


Voted that the Moderator appoint a committee of three to act with the Selectmen in regard to securing a supply of water from the City of Taunton. Herbert F. Atwood, Clarence C. Andrews and Lester E. Butler were that committee.


Voted that the School Committee be requested to make a report at the adjourned meeting as to what is necessary to be done in regard to congestion at Broad Cove and North School and heating apparatus at South School.

Voted that an estimate of cost of oiling streets be ob- tained by the Selectmen they to report at the adjourned meeting.


Voted to apply to the Massachusetts Highway Commis- sion for an allotment of money from the State under the small town act to be used in building macadam or gravel road.


Voted the compensation of the Treasurer and Collector be the same as last year which was for the Treasurer $200 plus the price of his official bond, the Collector one per cent of the whole commitment plus the price of his official bond.


Voted that the Town officers secure bonds from a bond company satisfactory to the Selectmen.


Voted to authorize the Selectmen to act as its agent in defending any suit at law, employ legal counsel and settle claims against the Town.


Voted on the question shall an act passed by the Gene- ral Court in 1908 entitled an act to provide for the pro- tection of Forest and Sprout land from fire be accepted by this Town, Yes 7; No 3.
