REPORT OF GYPSY MOTH.

The suppression of the Gypsy Moth is not so easy as first thought, they are here to stay. In watching their methods of scattering eggs through the woodland will it startle you if you stop to consider the outcome of this pest. In a town like Car- ver, with so many acres of woods to fight theni in, for instance four different colonies in the South Meadow ceder swamp where there is no possible way for them to have been carried there only by birds-which I believe are the main distributors of this pest. I find a large gain over last year woodland colonies up to Feb. 1, 1909-fifty woodland colonies, comprising something like two hundred and twenty-five acres to be trimmed and sprayed this season.

At this tinie the Town is about half scouted, the north part of the town is infested dangerously, we find scattered colonies from East Carver to the Wareham line. The moth work in this town is under the directions of Mr. John A. Farley and Mr. Norman Souther, State inspectors, which are giving us all help possible. A colony of parasites will be liberated this spring and we hope good returns from them, which I believe is the only way to keep them down, but it will take time, as the Gypsy Moth has the start. Mr. Farley expects to be able to place a two-horse-power sprayer in town this year. There are 27 or- chard colonies, which are more easily handled. Last year's wood colonies which we sprayed and burlaped we found but a few nests this winter, some places entirely exterminated.

In accordance with Massachusetts laws we will have to appro- priate one twenty-fifth of one per cent. of the town's valnation, then above that the Commonwealth will reimburse the town for all expenses for the year.

E. H. MURDOCK, Tree Warden.

REPORT OF PARK COMMISSIONERS, 1909.

To the Citizens of Carver-

The report of your Park Commissioners shows that we have expended $255.16, but does not show that the Town was reim- bursed the sum of $500.00, the amount paid for the Park and which appears in our account of 1907. It was on account of this sum being refunded that we thought it advisable to lay out the above amount and put the Park in good condition at once. We have on hand about 10 cords of logs. There is but little more work to be done and as we have a small balance we think we can do the work and take care of the Park without asking for more money for the coming year.

REPORT OF CEMETERY COMMISSIONERS.

All we have used of the appropriation of one hundred dollars we have expended in the improvement of Lakenham cemetery with the exception of one dollar expended in Wenham. We adjudged this course prudent as Lakenham is the oldest ceme- tery in town and most in need of immediate attention. In grading the northerly bank in this yard we have not only added to its attractiveness but reclaimed space which otherwise would have gone to waste

Our expenditures from the Trust funds may be seen in the report of the Town treasurer who is trustee of these funds.

Since our Board was instituted, the Union cemetery has been incorporated which removes it from our jurisdiction. At the

ensuing election we recommend the election of someone to rep- resent Wenham cemetery; and we also recommend an appro- priation of ?

?dollars for the ensuing year.
