The following work, other than general maintenance, was done by the Highway Department during the year 1956:

2,500 feet of Tremont Street was honed.


2,000 feet of High Street was honed.


2,500 feet of Cranberry Road was honed.


About four and one half miles of highway were sealed with asphalt and sand covered.


Approximately 24,000 gallons of asphalt were used.

The entire allotment of Chapter 90 funds was spent on Plympton Street and Main Street.

1,200 tons of Hot Mix Top was laid in two courses starting at Montello Street and covering the .6 of a mile to Plymouth Street.


2,000 feet of new road was built on Main Street. This pro- ject entailed the laying of 300 feet of 12" and 18" concrete pipe, the moving of approximately 12,000 cubic yards of fill and 1,200 cubic yards of gravel. This was penetrated and sealed with asphalt.
