ANNUAL REPORT

Report of the PRINCETON PUBLIC LIBRARY

The combination of bad weather on library days dur- ing the winter months and the necessity of closing the library 12 days because of shortage of fuel last winter while the East Princeton branch was open only 33 days or six days less than in 1944 reduced the total circulation to 3,965, or 563 less than in 1943. This was in spite of the fact that we have shelved 144 new books by purchase and added 139 others through gifts. The main library was open 100 days and the branch 33. Through the co-operation of the Boy Scouts the old paper and books was disposed of to the Crocker-Burbank Paper Co. of Fitchburg and the check turned in to the town treasurer.

Gift, of books were made by Mrs. John D. Peabody, Mrs. Maurice I. Leavitt, Mrs. Carlton T. Ellms, Mrs. John C. Coonley, Harry C. Beaman, Mrs. Peter S. H. Moore, Mrs. G. D. Krumbhaar, the State and the librarian.

Circulation at the main library consisted of 2,061 fic- tion, 985 juvenile, 170 biography, 408 periodicals and the rest miscellaneous. The recataloguing is still in progress. The librarian is deeply appreciative of the services of Miss Gertrude West who acted as librarian during the illness and death of Mrs. Arnold and is grateful for the volunteer as- sistance of Mrs. Sylvia McInerny in the recataloguing.
