SCHOOL NURSE'S ANNUAL REPORT


To Mr. Percy L. Rowe, Superintendent of Schools, Mendon, Massachusetts.


Dear Mr. Rowe:


May we submit to you the Annual School Nursing report for the year ending December 1949.


Mendon school was visited Tuesday of each week, when school was in session.


Measles, mumps and chicken pox were prevalent this year.


Two cases of poliomyelitis were reported.


Vision testing and audiometer testing of all pupils was completed in September and October.


Both examinations were an addition to the health of our School children, and we are greatly indebted to our State De- partment for the loan of machines.


Mass. Vision Test 273 pupils examined, 50 defects


Audiometer Test 269 pupils examined, 24 defects


The nurse assisted Dr. Berry with physicals. The pupils in the first, fifth and ninth grades were examined during the month of October.

At Dr. Berry's request the members of the Senior Class were given chest x-rays in November, at the clinic, conducted by the State Department of Public Health.


Tox-oid clinics were held in Mendon School March 16th, April 13th. Dr. Campbell assisted by the nurses, conducted the clinic.

TOWN WARRANT


COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS.


Worcester, ss.


To the Constable of the Town of Mendon in the County of Worcester, Greeting :


In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, you are directed to notify the inhabitants of the Town of Mendon qualified to vote in elections and in town affairs to meet at the Town Hall in said Mendon on Monday, the sixth day of March A. D., 1950, punctually at 9 o'clock A. M., to act on the following articles, 1 and 2. Article 3 and all following Articles on this Warrant will be acted upon Friday, the tenth day of March at 7 P. M.


Article 1. To choose a moderator to preside over said meeting.


Article 2. To bring in their ballots for the following Town Officers :


One Town Clerk for one year;


One Selectman for three years;


One Assessor for three years;


One Town Treasurer for one year;


One Constable for one year;


One Tree Warden for one year;


One Trustee of the Taft Public Library for one year;


One Trustee of the Taft Public Library for two years;

One Member of the School Committee for three years;


One Park Commissioner for three years;


One Highway Surveyor for one year;


One Water Commissioner for three years;


all on one ballot designating the office intended for each per- son voted for.


Article 3. To hear the reports of the several Town Of- ficers and Committees and act thereon.


Article 4. To choose all necessary Town Officers for the ensuing year.


Article 5. To appropriate such sums of money as may be necessary to defray town expenses for the financial year beginning January 1, 1950.


Article 6. To determine the compensation of the Tax Collector for the ensuing year.


Article 7. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Town Treasurer with the approval of the Selectmen, to bor- row money from time to time in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1950 and to issue a note or notes therefor, payable within one year and to renew any note or notes as may be given for the period of less than one year, in accordance with Section 17, Chapter 44 of the General Laws.


Article 8. To see if the Town will appropriate any sum of money for the improvement and repairs of highways, to be expended under the direction of the Massachusetts Depart- ment of Public Works as provided under Chapter 81 of the General Laws as amended, or take any action in relation to the same.

Article 9. To see if the Town will appropriate any sum of money for the operation and repairs of Town machinery, a part or whole to be taken from the Road Machinery fund, or take any action in relation to the same.


Article 10. To see if the Town will vote to appropriate any sum of money for the maintenance of Chapter 90 Roads, said money to be used in conjunction with any money which may be allotted by the State and County for this purpose, or take any action in relation thereto.


Article 11. To see if the Town will vote to appropriate any sum of money for Chapter 90 New Construction provided the State and County will contribute for such work under the provisions of Chapter 90 of the General Laws.


Article 12. To see what action the Town will take regard- ing any legal proceedings that may be brought against or by the Town.


Article 13. To see if the Town will authorize the Select- men to sell any or all real estate owned by the Town by reason of the foreclosure of Tax Title thereon and to execute, ac- knowledge and deliver a proper deed or deeds therefor, authority therefor to terminate March 5, 1951 or take any action in relation thereto.


Article 14. To see if the Town will vote to appropriate the dog license refund received from the Worcester County in 1949 to be used for general school expenses in 1950, or take any action in relation to the same.


Article 15. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Assessors with the approval of the Commissioner of Corpora- tions and Taxation to use such an amount of the free cash in the treasury as in their judgment should be used to reduce the tax levy of 1950, or take any action in relation thereto.

Article 16. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate the sum of $7,500.00 for the purchase and installa- tion of a new steam heating boiler, oil burner, 5,000 gallon oil tank, and hot water tank in the Mendon High School building, or take any action in relation thereto.


Article 17. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate the sum of $700. to purchase and install a 5,000 gal- lon tank for fuel oil storage for the Town buildings, or take any action in relation thereto.


Article 18. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate the sum of $400.00 to repaint Taft Public Library, or take any action in relation thereto.


Article 19. To see if the Town will vote to transfer the sum of $5,000 from available funds to the Stabilization Fund as defined in Chapter 124, Acts of 1945 of the General Laws of Massachusetts, or take any action in relation thereto.


Article 20. To see if the Town will vote to transfer a sum of money from the permanent Honor Roll Fund to the New Honor Roll account, or take any action in relation there- to.


Article 21. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money for the erection of a permanent Honor Roll for World War II veterans, or take any action in relation thereto.


Article 22. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money for the purpose of constructing the water system for the extinguishing of fires and for domestic and other purposes, substantially in accordance with the plan submitted in a report of the proposed water supply system by Hayden, Harding & Buchanan, Engineers, and determine how the money shall be provided for, or take any action in relation thereto.

Article 23. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money for the Administration of Veterans' Benefits, or take any action in relation thereto.


Article 24. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money for the purchase of twelve dining tables for the supper room in the Town Hall, (such as are be- ing used in the school building) or take any action in relation to same.


Article 25. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money to install a light on Elm Street, or take any action in relation thereto.


Article 26. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the highway surveyor to grant two weeks vacation with pay to himself and to those employees of said highway department that have worked at least thirty weeks of the preceding cal- endar year, such pay to be taken from the General Repair account.


Article 27. To see if the Town will accept the lay-out of Harrington Avenue, so-called, as layed out by the County Commissioners and filed with the Board of Selectmen, or take any action in relation to the same.


Article 28. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate any sum of money for material to finish off the second story of the fire station, or take any action in relation thereto.


Article 29. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money to clean the interior walls and re- paint the ceiling of the Town Hall, or take any action in rela- tion thereto.


Article 30. To see if the Town will vote to raise and ap- propriate $500.00 as an annuity to be paid to Mrs. Dorothy

Mantoni for life, or until she remarries, or take any action in relation thereto.


Polls will close at 6.00 P. M.


And you are directed to serve this warrant by posting up an attested copy thereof at the Post Office in said Mendon and causing a copy to be published once in the Milford Daily News, a newspaper published in Milford, Mass., both said posting and publication to be at least seven days before the time of the meeting hereby ordered to be held.


Hereof fail not, and make due return of this warrant with your doings thereon to the Town Clerk of said town before the time of meeting aforesaid.
