The work at the filter beds has not been done in a satisfactory manner, not due to the man in charge but to the system, that is not adequate to handle the in- creased amount of filterage received.

To either of the Constables of the Town of South- bridge, in the County of Worcester, GREETING:


In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachu- setts you are hereby requested to notify the inhabi- tants of the Town of Southbridge, aforesaid, qualified to vote in town affairs to meet in the Town Hall in said Southbridge, on Monday, the third day of March, 1919, at 5.45 o'clock in the forenoon, to act on the fol- lowing articles:


Article 1. To choose a moderator to preside over said meeting.


Article 2. To choose by ballot all necessary town officers for the ensuing year; viz:


Clerk, Treasurer, three Selectmen, three Overseers of the Poor, Collector of Taxes, one Assessor for three years, one member of the Board of Health for three years, two members of the School Committee for three

years, one Park Commissioner for three years, one Sinking Fund Commissioner for three years, one Sewer Commissioner for three years, two Cemetery Commis- sioners for three years, one Cemetery Commissioner for one year (to fill vacancy), Tree Warden, Highway Sur- veyor, three Constables, and all others provided for by law.


Article 3. To vote by ballot " Yes" or "No" in answer to the following question: " Shall licenses be granted for the sale of intoxicating liquors in this town? "


Article 4. To hear the reports of the Town Ac- countant, Treasurer, Clerk, Selectmen, School Commit- tee, Library Committee, etc., and to act anything there- on.


Article 5. To raise and appropriate such sums of money as may be necessary to pay town debts and charges for the current financial year or act anything thereon.


Article 6. To see if the town will vote to author- ize the Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow money in anticipation of the revenue of the current financial year, or act anything thereon.


Article 7. To see if the town will vote to author- ize the Selectmen to cause an audit to be made of the town's accounts for 1919, or act anything thereon.


Article 8. To see if the town will vote to pay the Enginemen, or act anything thereon.


Article 9. To see if the town will vote to give the

Collector of Taxes the same power to collect taxes that the Town Treasurer has when appointed Collector of Taxes, or act anything thereon.


Article 10. To see if the town will vote "to have all taxes due and payable October 1, 1919, and if not paid on or before October 15, 1919, to have interest charged at the rate of 6 per cent. per annum from October 1, 1919, or act anything thereon.


Article 11. To see if the town will vote to fix the compensation of town officers, laborers and teams, or act anything thereon.


Article 12. To see if the town will vote to accept the ambulance offered the town by the Southbridge Visiting Nurse Association, raise and appropriate money therefor, or act anything thereon.


Article 13. To see if the town will vote to con- tribute a sum of money to be used by the Massachu- setts Highway Commission in the improvement of the Dudley River Road, so-called, between Southbridge and Dudley, raise and appropriate money therefor, or act thereon.


Article 14. To see if the town will vote to build a macadam road on South Street, beginning at the end of the present macadam road, southerly, to a point op- posite or beyond the plant of the Litchfield Shuttle Company, raise and appropriate money therefor, or act thereon.


Article 15. To see if the town will vote to com- plete the partially constructed system of drainage on

Shuttle Shop Hill according to plans and specifications approved last year, raise and appropriate money there- for, or act thereon.


Article 16. To see if the town will vote to finish the bituminous macadam road on the North Woodstock Road, from the end of the present road to the Connec- ticut State line, and raise and appropriate money there- for, or act thereon.


Article 17. To see if the town will vote to build a fence on both sides of the road known as the "Mc- Kinstry Brook Road," against land of Mrs. Emily Clemence and land of William L. Mckinstry, et als., raise and appropriate money therefor, or act anything thereon.


Article 18. To see if the town will vote to install four (4) street lights on the road leading to the Alms- house, beginning at the school house and continuing easterly, raise and appropriate money therefor, or act anything thereon.


Article 19. To see if the town will vote to install two (2) street lights on Rose Street; also two (2) street lights on Green Avenue, raise and appropriate money therefor, or act thereon.


Article 20. To hear and act upon the report of the Selectmen upon regrading and rebuilding the side- walk on the southerly side of Main Street, from the Southbridge Savings Bank Building to Everett Street, as shown on plan submitted to the United States Gov- ernment by Thomas McGovern, civil engineer, raise

and appropriate money therefor, or act thereon.


Article 21. To see if the town will vote to accept the report of the Selectmen as to the laying out as a public way, a certain way leading from Chestnut Street to Morris Street, over land of Herman S. Cheney, raise and appropriate money therefor, or act anything there- on.


Article 22. To see if the town will vote to accept the report of the Selectmen as to the laying out as a public way, a certain way leading off Dresser Street southerly, known as Franklin Terrace, over land of George F. Maxwell and others, raise and appropriate money therefor, or act anything thereon.


Article 23. To see if the town will vote to accept the report of the Selectmen as to the laying out as a public way, a certain way, known as Moon Street Ex- tension, over land of Aimee Langevin and others, raise and appropriate money therefor, or act thereon.

To see if the town will vote to elect the Board of Overseers of the Poor at the next annual meeting, by electing one member of said board for one year, one member for two years, and one member for three years, and thereafter one member for three years, as provided by law, or act anything thereon.


Article 25. To see if the town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of $300 for the use of Com- panies H and I, Eighteenth Regiment, Massachusetts State Guards, or act anything thereon.
