The cash balance on December 31, 1934, was verified by a reconciliation of statements furnished by the banks of deposit.

The payments on account of debt and interest were verified by a comparison with the amounts falling due and with the can- celed bonds and coupons on file.

The savings bank books representing the investments of the several trust funds were examined and checked, the income and expenditures being verified and found to be as recorded.

Appended to this report is a table showing a reconciliation of the treasurer's cash, as well as summaries of the transactions and condition of the trust funds.

The records of the tax collector were also examined and checked in detail. The commitment lists were added and compared with the assessors' warrants, the collections as posted were checked with the cash book record of receipts, and the payments to the treasurer were verified. The recorded abatements were checked with the assessors' record of abatements granted and the out- standing taxes and assessments were listed and proved to the accountant's ledger.

Further verification of the outstanding accounts was made by

mailing notices to a large number of persons whose names appeared on the books as owing money to the town, the replies received thereto indicating that the accounts, as listed, are correct.

Appended to this report are tables showing summaries of the tax, motor vehicle excise tax, and assessment accounts.

The financial records of the town clerk were examined, the receipts on account of dog and sporting licenses and the payments to the town treasurer and to the Division of Fisheries and Game being verified.

The record of receipts of the sealer of weights and measures were examined, the field book being checked with the cash book and the payments to the treasurer being verified.

The records of all other departments wherein money was col- lected for the town were examined and compared with the treas- urer's and the accountant's books.

The surety bonds furnished by the several officials for the faith- ful performance of their duties were examined and found to be in proper form.

During the progress of the audit, co-operation was received from all town officials, for which, on behalf of my assistants and for myself, I wish to express appreciation.

Respectfully submitted,

HBD-MEF
