To EITHER OF THE CONSTABLES OF THE TOWN OF READING.
Greeting :
In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhab- itants of the Town of Reading, qualified to vote in elections and town affairs, to meet in Lyceum Hall, in said Reading, on Monday, the sixth day of April, A. D. 1885, at seven o'clock in the forenoon, to act on the following articles, viz .:-
ARTICLE 1. To choose a Moderator to preside at said meeting.
ART. 2. To hear and act on the reports of the Se- lectmen, Assesssors, Overseers of the Poor, Treasurer, Collector, School Committee, Engineers of the Fire De- partment, Trustees of the Public Library, Trustees of the Cemetery, and Auditors.

ART. 3. To see if the town will revoke its accept- ance of the provisions of the Sections 64 to 73 inclu- sive of Chapter 27 of the Public Statutes, in relation to the election of Selectmen, Assessors and Overseers of the Poor.
ART. 4. To choose a Town Clerk, one Selectman for one year, one for two years and one for three years. One Assessor for one year, one for two years and one for three years. One Overseer of the Poor for one year, one for two years and one for three years, Treasurer, Collector, Two School Committees for three years, Sur- veyor of Highways, Two Trustees of the Public Li- brary for three years and all other necessary town offi- cers.
ART. 5. To see if the Town will accept the provis- ions of Sections 22 and 23 of Chapter 50 of the Public Statutes.
ART. 6. Shall licenses be granted for the sale of in- toxicating liquors in this town?
ART. 7. To see if the Town will raise and appro- priate the sum of five hundred dollars for the purpose of laying concrete sidewalks and edgestones the en- suing year; provided the abutters pay one-half the expense of laying the same, or what they will do in re- lation thereto.
ART. 8. To see how much money the Town will raise and appropriate for the improvement of the Com- mon, or what they will do in relation thereto.
ART. 9. To see if the Town will employ a night watch the ensuing year, or what they will do in relation thereto.
ART. 10. To see if the Town will authorize the erection of a new building or the remodeling of exist-

ing buildings, for the purpose of providing better ac- commodations for the Union Street Primary Schools, and how much money they will raise and appropriate therefor, or what they will do in relation thereto.
ART. 11. To determine how much money the Town will raise for schools, incidental school expenses, re- pairing highways and bridges, the removal of snow, fire department, support of the poor, street lights, sala- ries of town officers, military aid, printing, abatement of taxes, town office, maintenance of police, cemetery, public library, Old South clock, soldier's graves, inter- est on the town debt, reduction of the town debt and miscellaneous expenses.
ART. 12. To see if the Town will authorize their Treasurer under the direction of the Selectmen to hire money in anticipation of taxes.
ART. 13. To see what instructions the Town will give their Assessors and Collector.
ART. 14. To determine the compensation of the Collector.
ART 15. To see if the Town will vote to provide a public water supply or what they will do in relation thereto.
ART. 16. To see if the Town will cause all town warrants to be published in the Reading Chronicle or what they will do in relation thereto.
ART. 17. To see if the Town will erect and main- tain five new street lights on Main street between Sum- mer avenue and the first street light north on Main street, one at the corner of Main and Federal streets, corner of Pleasant and Middle streets, corner of Pleas- ant and Eaton streets corner of Ash and Avon streets, and a gas light on Woburn street between Linden and Chute streets.

ART. 18. To see if the Town will fix the pay of members of the Reading Fire Department, or what they will do in relation thereto.
ART. 19. To see if the Town will construct more reservoirs for fire purposes, or what they will do in re- lation thereto.
ART. 20. To see how much money the Town will appropriate to sink an artesian well near the depot for fire purposes, or what they will do in relation thereto.
· ART. 21. To see if the Town will authorize the Board of Engineers to sell the Eagle Engine and house, or what they will do in relation thereto.
ART. 22. To see if the Town will build a cistern at or near the corners of Pierce and Salem streets and how much money they will raise and appropriate for the same, or what they will do in relation thereto.
ART. 23. To see if the Town will build a cistern at or near the corners of Ash and Avon streets and how much money they will raise and appropriate for the same, or what they will do in relation thereto.
ART. 24. To see if the Town will increase the pay of the members of the Hook and Ladder company, or what they will do in relation thereto.
ART. 25. To see if the Town will raise and appro- priate a sum of money to repair the sidewalk on the westerly side of Ash street from the Railroad crossing to Cross street, or what they will do in relation thereto.
ART. 26. To see if the Town will build a sidewalk on the northerly side of Locust street between High- land and Beacon streets, and how much money they will raise and appropriate for the same or what they will do in relation thereto.
ART. 27. To see if the Town will raise and appro-

priate the sum of four hundred dollars to widen Main street from Geo. L. Putnam's line to Summer avenue, or what they will do in relation thereto.
ART. 28. To see if the Town will cause flagstones to be laid across High street from the Railroad station to the corners of Haven and Chute streets, or what they will do in relation thereto.
ART. 29. To see how much the Town will pay per day for labor on the highways, or what they will do in relation thereto.
ART. 30. To see if the Town will give any instructions to the Highway Surveyor in regard to employing citizens of this town upon the highways.
ART. 31. To see how much money the Town will raise and appropriate for the enforcement of the liquor law, or what they will do in relation thereto.
ART. 32. To see how much money the Town will raise and appropriate to raise the abutments and grade of the bridge over the Boston and Maine Railroad at Mineral street crossing, or what they will do in relation thereto.
ART. 33. To see if the Town will purchase one dozen Johnson pumps to be distributed about the town, or what they will do in relation thereto.
ART. 34. To see if the town will furnish a pump and watering trough at the corners of West and Woburn streets, or what they will do in relation thereto.
ART. 35. To see if the Town will give permission to the Lyceum Hall Association to place a pump in the well in Main street opposite the residence of Francis A. Phelps, or what they will do in relation thereto.
ART. 36. To see if the Town will instruct the Trustees of the Public Library to move the Library into the new Town building on Pleasant street.
ART. 37. To see what instructions the Town will give its Selectmen in regard to the suit of Edwin Pierce for damage sustained in consequence of alleged defect in highway.

ART. 38. To see how much money the Town will raise and appropriate to erect and maintain Guide Boards and Street Signs, or what they will do in relation thereto.
ART. 39. To see if the Town will release to Susan Ban- croft the real estate on the west side of Linden street, sold to the town for taxes in 1878 by W. Wallace Davis, collector, or what they will do in relation thereto.
ART. 40. To see if the Town will accept the report of the Selectmen on laying out a town-way from Prospect street to Mineral street (so called), also, a town way from Summer ave- nue to West street, or what they will do in relation thereto.
ART. 41. To hear and act upon a list of jurors prepared by the Selectmen.
ART. 42. To hear and act upon the report of the Selectmen in relation to guide posts.
ART. 43. To see if the Town will accept the sum of $75.00 in trust from the estates of Mrs. Susan Wright and Mrs. Elizabeth Preston and from Margaret Gilman, the income from the same to be used for the purpose of keeping their cemetery lot, No 526 1-2, in the Reading cemetery, in repair.
ART. 44. To see if the Town will accept the sum of $100.00 in trust from Susan A. Martin, the income from the same to be used for the purpose of keeping her cemetery lot in Reading cemetery in repair.
Hereof fail not, and make due return of this warrant with your doings therein, to the Town Clerk, at or before the time appointed for said meeting.
