REPORT OF TEACHER OF MANUAL TRAINING
Mr. Beane,
Superintendent of Schools, +
Tewksbury, Mass.
My Dear Sir:
In this, my annual report, I wish to give a short resume of the work done in the manual training classes, which are under my super- vision.
The boys are taking a very keen interest in their work and are all doing well. Instead of trying to complete as many projects as in the past, they are making an effort to do a more finished and more com- plete piece of work.
We are making the following articles :- Hall trees, ferneries, drum top tables, tilt top tables, medicine cabinets, smoking stands, end tables, bird feeding stations, doll houses, book racks, taborets, Priscilla sewing cabinets, and many other smaller articles. These are taken from plans and sketches, which the boys have to work out to a certain extent.
Besides teaching the boys to use their hands, this work gives them- the ability to visualize the complete article before it is begun, and it also trains them in accuracy and exactness,
Respectfully yours,
R. A. NORTON.

REPORT OF SEWING TEACHER
Mr. Stephen B. Bean, Superintendent of Schools, Tewksbury, Massachusetts. Dear Sir:
The following report is submitted covering instruction in sewing in the Foster School.
The girls in the seventh grade have made holders, dish towels and sewing bags. We expect to start on underwear with in a week or so. Then the girls will learn how to use a commercial pattern and how to use the sewing machine.
The eighth grade girls have made laundry bags, underwear and are now making dresses. Every girl plans just how she is going to make her dress and then uses a commercial pattern for cutting it out. Some of the girls are making clothes for younger members of the family.
Respectfully submitted.
January 12, 1931.
LENA M. COBURN.

REPORT OF SCHOOL NURSE
To the Superintendent and the School Committee of Tewksbury:
As School Nurse I submit the following report:
I have made two hundred and eighty-six visits to the schools. Every child has been weighed and measured and a physical record card sent home with the report cards. Every child has been examined for pedicu- losis, cleanliness, skin eruptions, etc., every two months. Contagious cases have been very carefully followed up and everything done to prevent their spread.
I have made sixty-six visits to the homes, and the parents have been willing to co-operate with me in every way. I have conducted sixty-two children to the Dentist, and obtained corrected vision for twenty-nine children. Eighteen children have been with me for the re- moval of tonsils and adenoids, and I have influenced the parents to at- tend to the matter in several cases.
I assisted Dr. Larrabee in vaccinating fifteen children and in the examination of one hundred and seventy-six children. I have recorded defects found and am obtaining corrections. I have done two hundred and forty four simple dressings in school.
The New England Dairy and Food Council have sent us a Story Teller and some beautiful pictures and we have visited all the schools.
The hot lunches are a decided factor in-the well-being of the chil- dren of the Foster and Spaulding Schools.
Respectfully submitted,
MRS. E. P. MACLAREN.

During the past year we have had a large number of contagious diseases, but a very low death rate. At present there are many cases of scarlet fever in our surrounding towns and city. It is not possible to prevent its presence in our locality, but much can be done by the parents in keeping children from public amusement gatherings and stores particularly in the cities. The type of this disease, so prevalent, is very mild and many cases have gone unrecognized, so that they are going about freely, making themselves a menace to all contacts. An- other health problem, which we must face. is the water supply of our town. This past year I have had an analysis made of about fifteen drinking supplies in the town, particularly along the State highway, not one case has been accepted that was not a "so called" deep well. Every supply not deeper than thirty-five feet has shown contamina- tion. Our state authorities tell us that all such wells will show this same result, because of the many years of growing saturation, from our necessary sewage disposal. Although at the present time I cannot say that the general health of the town is affected, still I can say, that this is a definitely progressive process of contamination and that not very long hence, we are going to be forced to the issue of a town supply.
Respectfully submitted, HERBERT M. LARRABEE, M. D ..
