BALTIMORE, MD. STREET, AVENUE AND STREET CAR LINE GUIDE
Revised and Corrected up to November 1st, 1918
By the decimal system of numbering houses one hundred numbers are allot- ted to each square, commencing at CHARLES STREET running EAST and WEST and at BALTIMORE STREET running NORTH and SOUTH. All other streets not commencing at either of the above points are numbered in accord- ance with this system. By this system Even Numbers are invariably found on the North and West side of Streets, and Odd Numbers on the South and East side. The following classification and arrangement of Streets forms a diagram for each Street, giving its starting point, intersections and numbers, and will be found of great utility in finding special locations. From this list the location of any number on a Street can be ascer- tained; as for instance, wishing to know at what part of Aisquith Street No. 621 comes, look at Aisquith Street and you will find that MeElderry Street runs from 601 and Monument 701, showing
that No. 621 Aisquith Street is between McElderry and Monument Streets.
The marginal letters of the alphabet refer to the nearest street car line. For example, you wish to go to 621 Aisquith ; you refer to Aisquith Street in the Street Directory and find that 621 would be between McElderry Street and Mon- ument Street, and the letter "H" in the margin, then by referring to the street railway lines on preceding pages you find the letter "H" is the Harford Ave- nue line, which is the nearest car.
The letters and figures in parenthe- ses following the name of a Street, re- fer to where the beginning of that Street can be found on the Map. For example, you wish to find Baltimore Street, you refer to Baltimore Street in this Directory and find the letter I and the figure 7 (1-7) in parentheses; then by referring to the Map in the front of the book, you will find in block under the letter I and parallel to figure 7, Baltimore Street.
