THE MUTUAL LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY

YORK, No. 44 WALL STREET, N. Y.

OC

This Company, since its organization on the first day of February, 1843 (two years), has issued one thousand and eight-six policies. The total amount received for premium and interest on investments, $121,687; yielding a net capital of $97,273, after paying all its losses and expenses. This accumulated capital is rapidly increasing by the 2d and 3d years' premiums now becoming due, and by a vastly extended and growing business. The eminent success and prosperity of the institution have placed it in a strong position. Its capital and resources are now so amplè as to inspire confidence in its stability, and insure safety to its members.

This Company is organized upon the most approved principles of Mutual Life In- surance, and offers very great advantages to whole Life Policies, or insurances for short periods, if continued till death, without incurring any personal responsibilities. At the expiration of every five years from the date of the first policy, (which will make the first division of profits be on the first of February, 1848, ) the WHOLE of the profits will be divided among the insured in proportion to the amount of premiums paid by them, and will remain at their credit as an accumulating fund, payable at the decease of the life insured.

The progress of this institution thus far gives strong grounds for anticipating large dividends to its members at the stated periodical settlement, and fully equal to those of the most distinguished and successful Mutual Companies in Great Britian, where it is well known immense profits have been made.

'The importance and utility of Life Insurance are becoming matter of deep interest with all classes of the community, and it is now occupying much of public attention, and beginning to make fovorable impressions as to the great benefits to be derived from it, as the published monthly statement of lives insured by the Company conclusively shows.

Merchants and Traders ; Officers, Civil, Military and Naval ; Clergymen, and pro- fessional inen generally ; Clerks and persons in every station in society, may secure to their families, in the event of death, a comfortable support and independence, by mak- ing, with this institution, a small annual investment for an insurance on their lives.

This Company will grant insurance on lives upon the most favorable terms. Per- sons may effect insurance on their own lives or the lives of others.

Pamphlets explaining the principles and showing the advantages of Life Insurance, with the rates of premiums and forms of application, may be obtained at the office of this Company, No. 44 Wall street, or of any of its Agents.

The spacious buildings erected for the special use of the Medical Department are located in the eastern section of the city, on

BROADWAY, NEAR EAST BALTIMORE STREET,

They have been constructed solely for the purpose of instruction in the science of Medicine, by lectures and demonstrations. With this view a large wing has been appropriated to the uses of a Hospital, in which are received private patients, and likewise, by an order from the United States Treasury Department, one-half of the seamen of this port who may require medical relief. Another portion of the building has been expressly arranged for the accommodation of those Students who may prefer to board and lodge in the College edifice, where com- fortable private apartments will be furnished by the Steward of the Institution, on reasonable terms.
