In addition there are thirty-five associate professors, lecturers and assistants. Academic instruction commences at the beginning of Oc- tober and continues till June. Afternoon lec- tures in Hopkins Hall are open to the public. The laboratories of Chemistry, Biology and Physics are well equipped. The library con- tains twelve thousand selected volumes.


PEABODY INSTITUTE.


Founded by George Peabody, Feb. 12, 1857. Corner of Mt. Vernon and Washington Places. The Institute has four Departments :


1. A Library of 75,000 volumes, open from 9 A. M. until 9 P. M., to all callers, being en- tirely free. The books are not taken from the building.


2. A Lecture Department, in which about 30 lectures are given each year on Science, Litera- ture and Art, by the most accomplished scholars of the country, at merely nominal prices.


3. A Conservatory of Music. Instruction given in all branches of Music at greatly re- duced prices, and several concerts are given every season at about half the cost of the music.


4. A Gallery of Art, containing many beau- tiful works of Art by Rinehart, Powers and others.
