FOREWORD
The Centennial Edition of the General Catalogue of Colby College, while prepared mainly on the same plan as the Third Edition, issued in 1909, differs from it in some respects. For the first time an attempt has been made to give full biographical data regarding former students of the college who did not graduate. These records are still far from complete, owing to the difficulty in locating non-graduate students of later years and the impossibility of obtaining information regarding those of the earliest period in the short time allowed for the preparation of the book.
In order to keep the book of convenient size it has been necessary to omit much material which it was at first hoped might be included. This material is, however, on file at the college and is available for future use should occasion arise.
The Editor is grateful for the aid rendered by many individuals, by the several fraternities and sororities, and by the members of the Com- mittee, in the gathering of statistics. He is especially indebted to Dr. J. D. Taylor, '68, who has read the proof, and to Rev. W. P. Chipman, D.D., without whose untiring help during many months the completion of the Catalogue in time for the Centennial would have been an impossibility.
In a work involving so great a multitude of details there must be many errors. The Editor believes that the number will be found to be small when the complexity of the material and the shortness of the time available are considered. Errors and omission can be avoided in future editions if all who notice such mistakes will promptly report to the Editor.
