Avery - Thatcher Avery was a descendant of Richard Warren who came to America on the Mayflower. £ Thatcher Avery and Hannah, his wife, were admitted to the church, Truro, Mass., Aug. 5,1781 Atkins - Prudence Atkins, wife of Ambrose Atkins, admitted to the church in Truro, Mass., April 17, 1789.
Dudley Atkins, Representative to Legislature from Newburyport, died in 1767.
Nathaniel Atkins, son of Henry and Elizabeth Atkins, father at Yarmouth in 1641.
Beal - Clarissa Beal married Daniel Somes, a tanner at Mt. Desert. She was born in 1770, died in August, 1831.
Jeremiah and Sarah (Ripley) Beal were living in Hingham, Mas.z. when their daughter Mary was born, May 6,1666. She married John Orcutt, an ancestor of Jacob Orcutt who came to Ponobscot in 1774. Mrs. Elizabeth Beal, widow of Samuel Beal, married Theophilus Byram, N. Yarmouth, Mo. in 1749.

two, Edward and Susan Beal, were born in Ellsworth, Me. Mary Beal, daughter of Jeremiah and Sarah (Ripley) Beal married John Orcutt. Their son Ebenezer Orcutt married Deliverance Kingman at Bridgewater, Mass. John Orcutt, son of Ebenezer and Deliverance moved to Penobscot in 1787.
Bray - Thomas Bray married Eleanor Dodge. Their daughter, Abigail, born in Gloucester, Mass., July 4, 1727, married Mark Haskell and came to Deer Isle, Me.

Bridges - Edward Bridges, Castine. Served in Revolutionary War and War of 1812. His son Joshua was born in Bucksport, Me. Mary Bowden, daughter of Ebeneza Bowden, Revolutionary soldier, married Joshua Bridges.
Billings - Nathaniel Billings was in Concord, Mass. prior to 1700. John Billings, descendant of Nathaniel Billings, married Hannah Farrar, April 19,1753, at Sudbury, Mass. They came to Deer Isle, Me. Their children: John, Jr., Abel, Solomon, Azuba, Timothy, Hannah, Daniel, Lucy, Isaac. For more information relating to this family inquire of Mrs. Josephine Littlefield, Oakland House, Herricks, Me.
Benjamin Billings was born in Concord, Mass., Dec.12,1753. His wife, Abigail, was a daughter of Nathan Closson of Deer Isle. John Billings, brother of Benjamin mentioned above, married Mary Closson of Deer Isle. He was killed in an engagement with the British at Castine.

Catherine Carter married Daniel Billings of Deer Isle. Among other children were Daniel and Peter, who made their homes at Monroe, Me.
Currier - Thomas and Maria (Jorden) Currier came from Newburyport, Mass. to Sedgwick.
Richard Currier of Sedgwick married Abigail Eaton, a daughter of Ebenezer Eaton who was ordained a minister in 1823. Samuel and Mary (Hardy) Currier were in Haverhill, Mass. Jan. 28, 1675.
William and Tibethia Currier at Newbury, Mass., Oct. 1757. A daughter Susanna, born that. year, married Solomon Haskell, an ancestor of Hancock County Haskells.
Clement - Hannah Clement of Haverell . married Benjamin Gale. Their
daughter Hannah Gale married Jonathan Buck and came to ( Bucksport. Davis - Joseph and Jemima (Eastman) Davis had a daughter Elizabeth
born in Amesbury, Mass., May 25,1711. She married Elijah Colby, son of Anthony and Mary (Currier) Colby, born in Haverhill, Mass.,Sept.14,1707.
Anthony Colby, son of Isaac and Martha (Parret), born in Haverhill, Mass., Jan.24, 1669. Mary, his wife, was daughter of Samuel and Mary (Hardy) Currier. Family came to Maino. Nicholas Davis sailed from England on the ship Planter, in 1635. With him was his wife Sarah and a boy, Will Locke, sala to have been his nephew. They later settled in York.

Thomas Davis owned land in what is now Brooksville, Maine, prior to 1800.
Margaret Davis married in Berwick, June 30, 1745, Thomas Wasgatt. They were living in Penobscot in 1763, but later went to Mt.Desert.
(Bucksport Dorr - Daniel Dorr married Betsy Harriman, Nov.16,1809. Home in Dunbar - Jacob Dunbar of Hingham, Mass. His daughter Mary married Warren Gardiner, also of Hingham. He was a soldier in the
Revolutionary War. They moved to eastern Maine. A son, Jacob D. Gardiner was born in Pembrook in 1797.
It is said that another branch of this family was at Stuben. This was Peter Dunbar.
David Dunbar is said to have "laid out and surveyed" the towns of Boothbay, Bristol and Waldoboro, in 1729.
Eldridge - Ebeneza Eldridge of Bucksport married Jorden. Lydia Eldridge, born about 1738, married, Jan.12,1753, Barzillai Hopkins, at Chatham, Mass.
Farnham, Varnum, Farnum - Members of this family were in Connecticut prior to 1775.
Daniel and Ralph Varnum were at York in 1646. (1780 Matthew Varnum came to what is now West Brooksville before It is recorded that in 1691 or 1692 John Farnum and Samuel Wardwell were guests at the home of Mr. Martin, Andover, Mass. Mary V. Farnham, born in Sangerville, Me., Aug.20,1807, married John Harriman.

married Marietta Herrick, daughter of Daniel and Jerusha (Cole) Herrick of Charleston, M9. Gardner - family founded in America by Thomas Gardner who came from England in 1624. He had a son Thomas, Jr. and two grandsons, Richard and John.'
Stephen Gardner, probably the son of the grandson John", married Huldah Chubbubk of Hingman. Their son Warren Gardner came to eastern Maine, married Mary Dunbar whose father, Jacob Dunbar, also lived in Hingman, Mass.
Hale - John Hale, native of Rutland, Vt., came to Castine, Me. His wife was Sarah Little, who was born in Castine in 1802. They
later moved to Ellsworth. They were the parents of fifteen children. The names of all are not available, but we give here those with which we are familiar: John M. ,Jr. , James A, Thos. E., Challes F., Mary S.
Thomas Hale, said to have been at Newbury, Mass. in 1635, died there in 1682. He is said to have been an ancestor of Sen. Eugene Hale of Ellsworth.
Sarah Hale married Peter Dodge, baptized in Beverly, Mass., April 23, 1768.
Lt. Daniel Hale, Newbury, Mass., married Keziah Plumer. Their daughter Edna Hale was born in Newbury, Feb.23,1761. Apr.10,1781 she married Caleb Haskell, son of Caleb and Elizabeth Haskell of Ipswitch, Mass. They came to eastern Maine but later returned to Massachusetts. However, their descendants settled at Deer Isle and Sedgwick.

1691 Asa Harriman, early Bucksport settler, Revolutionary War soldier. His wife was Elizabeth Todd. Second wife, Abigail Goodell Perkins, a widow of Kittery, Me. Children: Joshua, Asa, James, James, Benjamin, Joseph, Susanna, Elizabeth, Stephen, John Edmund, Thomas, Samuel.

Hawes - Richard Hawes died, 1837. His wife's name was Nancy.
In Prospect, Me. David Hawes died Aug. 19, 1858, age 75 yrs.

Capt.C.P.Hawes died in Shanghi, China, Mar.6,1877, age 37 yrs 9 m Barbara G., his wife, died in Chefoo, China, July 2, 1872, age 27 yrs. 9 mos.
David Hawes born in Dedham, Mass. Feb.10,1652. Me. Richard Hawes came from Cape Cod to what is now Brooksville, A David Hawes married Rebecca Parker, daughter of Oliver Parker. Herrick - Sarah Herrick married Reuben Gray who was born at Castine June 3, 1762. Miss Herrick's home was at Campstream,
Sedgwick. Their fifth son, Andrew Gray, owned a share in a large coasting vessel, the Maine, and one fourth of the Cadiz. . From Gray Family Book
Samuel Herrick, son of Samuel and Prudence Herrick, baptized in Gloucester, Mass. Dec. 30, 1744, married Sarah Lufkin of Gloucester, Mar. 25, 1768. Came to what is now Brooklin, Me. He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. Their children were: Mary, John, Humphry, Rachel, Prudence, Samuel, Benjamin, Joseph, Anna, Ruth.
Samuel Herrick, born in Sedgwick, Me., June 8, 1770. Phebe Herrick, daughter of Samuel and Lucy (Black) Herrick, married Peleg Staples whose name is so often found in these (records. Holden - William and Jane Holden were early settlers in Portland, Me. A grandson, Geo. H. Holden, at one time lived in Sedgwick, Me. Sarah Holden married Humphrey Herrick, a son of John and Rachel (Allen) Herrick.
Amasa Holden, a schoolteacher, moved to Deer Isle from Mendon, Mass. (Prior to 1840)
Hutchins - Jeremiah Hutchins of York came to Orland, Me. A son Edward married Mary Smith of Orland. Edward and Mary were the parents of ten children: £ Adela, Stephen, Seth, Polly, Samuel, Reuben, Ann, Maria. Edward and Edwin (twins) were born in Orland, Oct.22, 1836. 1
Johnson - Giles Johnson, early settler in Penobscot. His wife was Abigail Reed of Woburn, Mass. Their daughter, Lucy, married Seth Blodgett.
Capt.Edward Johnson, Woburn, had at least two sons, William and John. This family was related to Giles Johnson.
Obed and Joanna (Wood) Johnson, early settlers in Bluehill,
Me. Their son Robert Johnson married Lucy Blodgett of Penobscot, April 15,1811. Their children, born in Bluehill: Samuel B., Bradshaw, Franklin, Eliza H., Abigail W., Harriet E., John H., Emily M.
Koys - Capt. Samuel Keys and his wife Thankful were living in Orland in 1770. A daughter, Betsy Keys, married Joshua Harriman, a soldier in the Revolutionary War.
Loach - John and Elizabeth (Flint) Leach of Salem. Their daughter Sarah, born Aug. 31, 1673, married Samuel Herrick. They moved to Gloucester. Their descendants came to Northport, Bluehill, Penobscot, and Mt.Desert.
Josiah Leach married a daughter of Benjamin Gott (Mt.Desert). Charles Leach of Bluehill married Nancy Harriman in 1831. (174] Mary Leach married Robert Haskell. Home at Beverly, Mass. in Little - Richard Little, seaman and shoemaker, living at Newbury Green, Mass, in 1787, had a son Moses, born July 4, 1766. Otis Little married Abigail Perkins of Castine. They were parents of Lucy Little who married Dr. Samuel J. Wallace of
Castine. He was a soldier in the Civil War.
Thomas Little married Ann Warren, daughter of Richard and
Elizabeth Warren, Mayflower passengers. Their granddaughter,
Ruth Little, married Rev. John Avery. (See Castine Averys) Littlefield - Josiah Littlefield was in Wells prior to 1714.
Doc. 22, 1703 Rachel Littlefield of Manchester, Mass. married Daniel Gott of Gloucester. A daughter, Rachel Gott, was born to them there in 1730.

Edmund and Bathia (Waldo) Littlefield of Braintree, Mass. had a daughter Esther born there Nov. 6, 1714. On June 23, 1731, this daughter Esther Littlefield married Samuel Soper in Bridgewater, Mass. The family moved to Orland, Me. and their son Samuel, Jr. married a Miss Littlefield of Penobscot. She was his third wife. This was about 1778.
Jane Littlefield married John Wasson, Jr. in Brooksville, Sept.2,1826.
Lowell - Percival Lowell was 68 years of age when he and his wife Rebecca left their home in England and sailed for America on the ship Jonathan. With them was their son John, his wife Margaret, and their four little children. This was in 1639. Margaret died following the birth of her fifth child soon after the arrival of the family at Newbury, Mass. John Lowell's second wife was Elizabeth Goodale, also of England and Newbury. These people were the ancestors of the present Lowell family in Penobscot.
Joseph Lowell, born Feb. 20,1721 at Newbury, Mass., married Mary Jones. One of their daughters, Hannah, married Reuben Grindell of Penobscot, and another, Ann, married Joshua Grindle of Brooksville who was a half-brother of Reuben. Eliphelet Lowell was one of this family.
Moor, Moore - We find this name spelled both ways.
John Moor of Londonderry, N.H. settled in Ellsworth, 1794. He married Jennie Joy.
Phillip Moore of Gott's Island mar. Asenath Gott in 1808.

Daniel Moore (or Moor) came from New Hampshire to New. Port- land, and was a soldier in the War of 1812. His farm was in Lexington, Me. He married Mrs. Agenath Smith and had a large family. One of his children, Dr.Jonathan Moore, born 1823, lived in Solon, Me.
A son was born to David Moore and Betsy, his wife, in Brooks- ville, Oct. 1822. They also had two daughters, born April 27, 1820
C'apt.John Burgess, shipmaster of Cape Cod, came to Penobscot and married Hannah Moore who died April 1, 1841, age 74 yrs. They were the parents of fifteen children. Capt. Burgess died - in Belfast, Dec. 13, 1843, age 84 yrs.
Perkins - Isaac and Olive (Webber). Perkins of Castine were parents
of twelve children. Their daughter Lucy married John
Blodgett. She died in April, 1831.
Nathaniel Perkins, Old York, was a Revolutionary soldier. He enlisted July 10, 1775. His son, Nathaniel, Jr., born at York, 1767, died in that part of Penobscot which is now Brooksville, Jan. 5, 1791. His wife was Elizabeth Wescott. Children: Nathaniel 3rd, born Feb.24,1782; Amos, born Aug.25, 1785; Debora, born Oct.16,1787.
Stover Perkins, one of the early merchants and shipbuilders of Castine, married Annie Hatch.
Daniel Perkins came from York to Castine before the
Revolutionary War. His wife was Abigail Penney. Their son Thomas Perkins married Clarissa Nash cf Harrington or

Addison, Me. Their children were Daniel, Eliza Ann, Alexander G., Gilbert, William N., Augustus S., Abby, Mary, Priscilla, Edgar S.
Stover - William Stover, Jeremiah Stover and Isaac Stover came from Old York.
William and his wife, Mercy, who was born in 1781, were the parents of at least six children. Nathaniel, born 1787, William,Jr., born 1789, Ambros, born 1791, Hannah, born 1793, John, , Polly, born 1807.
A note on old town records in Brooksville reads as follows: Elias S. Stover died in Alberquerque, N. Mex., Feb., 1927, age 90 yrs. His ancestors are said to have been natives of Penobscot in the State of Maine.

Me. His son, James, Jr., born there in 1801, mowed to Sangerville.
Judith Thompson married, June 1, 1801, John Thomas (Bluehill or Mt.Desert) a son of John and Elizabeth Cousins Thomas. Cornelius Thompson was captain of a privateer in the Revolutionary War. He was only 21 years old at that time. His home was at Beverly Farms, Mass.
Wardwell - Daniel Wardwell settled in Penobscot about 1775. He was a descendant of Thomas and Elizabeth Wardwell who came from Great Britain to Boston in 1633, and later went to Exeter,

Jeremiah Wardwell was assistant to John Peters when the original survey of the town of Penobscot and surrounding towns was made.
Extract from the diary of Jeremiah Wardwell: "Frozen in the ice between Long Island and Bagaduce Point. Out of patience, out of tobacco, out of provisions, and worst of all out of (rum." Samuel Wardwell of Andover, Mass., in 1672 was a
carpenter. Accused of witchcraft, he was executed Sep.22, 1692 Ware - Dr. Ephriam Ware of Groton, a Revolutionary soldier, came to Concord, Me. A son, Abel Ware, married Sybil Spaulding of
. that town. A grandson, Abel, Jr., born Sept.11,1798, married Elizabeth Thomas, daughter of Dr. Stephen Thomas, a surgeon in the English navy.
Nathaniel Ware married a daughter of Joseph Colby. Joseph Colby was baptized in Newbury, Mass., 1766, and came to Deor Isle. Later probably mowed to Bucksport, Mo.
Wescott - William Wescott of York married Elizabeth Perkins and came to Castine. He built a new home ton rods from Bagaduce Point. Their son, Joseph Wescott, married Lucy Stover of Penobscot. Ho was a captain in the War of 1812. Died in Castino in 1831.
Wetmore - Josoph Wetmore, Jr. was drowned in 1814 while helping two other men, Mr. Brown of Vinal Haven and John Eaton of Deer Isle, take a cow across the bay to Vinal Haven.
Seth Wetmore married a Miss Stinson and lived at Trenton, Me.

settlers on what is now Verona Island. This was known originally as Wetmore's Island.
Wilson - Simeon and Joanna (Wheeler) Wilson at Chelmsford, Mass., in 1816. Their daughter Amelia married Jacob Treworgy and came to Maine.
Sarah Wilson of Gouldsboro, Me. married in 1790, Thomas Guptill. Josiah Wilson of Castine married Anna Perkins. Their son, Stover P, Wilson, married Abigail McCaslin of Penobscot. Julia A. Wilson, born in Penobscot, Dec.15,1819, married Jeremiah H. Soper of Orland.
Visula Wilson, born in Penobscot, Mar. 1, 1821, married Justus Soper.
Haynes - 1st Mary Hopkins, born Apr. 5,1779, married Haynes of Trenton, Me.
2nd Margaret Thomas, born Feb.13,1807, married Perley Haynes, a farmer in Dedham, Me. They were married Feb.25, 1831.
