Detroit Directory Library-Every Directory Office is a Branch
HOW DIRECTORY LIBRARIES ARE USED
He Wanted to Buy a Home
"Who sells ready-cut houses?" said a man to us the other day. "There is nobody listed under that heading in the Detroit City Directory, but I know there is some concern out in the State which sells them."
Reference to the Michigan State Gazet- teer (State Business Directory) soon told him that the concern he wished was the North American Construction Company, of Bay City, Mich. "I will write and order what I want at once." was his parting remark.
Where one instance of this sort comes to our attention, the same things are happen- ing over and over again wherever a City Directory is to be found.
If you will trace back new customers to find out how they found you, City Direct- ory classified lists will receive their share of the credit.
A $50,000.00 Order
A traveling man from St. Louis called on a wholesale dry goods house in St. Paul, to sell salvage goods. They did not deal in that class of goods.
Later the firm dissolved. One partner decided to engage in that line of trade and wanted to buy a complete stock, amounting to about $50,000.00.
He called at our office and examined the St. Louis Directory to find the name of the house the agent represented. The class- ification "Salvage Goods" did not show it.
We, being more familiar with the class- ifications in a Directory, found it under "Bankrupt Stocks," much to the delight of the jobber, and a tremendous order was placed with the salvage house.
The classified section of the City Directory is the greatest buyers' guide on earth. Any one classification may secure the largest order and the best customer, any or every day in the year, and its omission may lose a large order at any time.
Every day, all over the country, thousands of people are consulting Polk's Directory Libraries. We offer you the free use of our directories for single reference.
Many Directories of various cities are bought by progressive concerns, who desire up- to-date mailing lists, classified by trades and otherwise.
Ask for a free copy of our "Directory of Directories," or for our "List of Mailing Lists."

First. The advancement of the Directory business and the improve- ment of Directories by the interchange of ideas and the exchange of ex- perienced employes.

Third. To provide permanent and profitable employment to compe- tent, industrious and honest Directory canvassers and compilers.
Fourth. For the mutual protection and advancement of the estab- lished and prospective interests of all who may become members, by personal advice and assistance of members as may be mutually satis- factory, desirable or advisable, and by such other means as may, from time to time, be shown to be wise, proper and lawful.
