Langdon Cemetery
Langdon Cemetery is located in Dunklin County - Clay Township - Section 21 - Range 9E. This area is called Cotton Plant. In 1847 Mr. E. J. Langdon entered the mercantile business here, locating his store near the middle of the north half of the southeast quarter of Section 16. A few years later he moved his stock of goods to its final location in the southeast quater of Section 21. The land upon which the store was build was bought from John Cude, who had obtained it by buying scrip from Private Thomas I. David of Captain Blakemore's Company, First Regiment, Tennessee Volunteers, whitch presumably was involved in the Mexican war.
There are 24 marked graves in the cemetery and several unmarked graves on the west side of it. One of the unmarked graves is that of Dr. George Lindemood, who died around 1880, probably a middle-aged man. He was a brother-in-law of Judge E. J. Langdon.
There will be one more person buried in this cemetery, and that is Miss. Louise Blanche Langdon. She was born in 1889.
Edwin James Langdon, was born in Middlebury, Vermont, Aug. 7, 1819 son of Hiram & Mary "Polly" Dowd Langdon, both of Scotch descent. On June 22, 1847 he married Sarah Ann Americus Eliza- beth Jane Glasscock, who came from near Jackson, Mo., she was of Scotch-Irish descent, being the daughter of Robert L. & Elizabeth Sullinger Glasscock. E. J. & Sarah had 9 childred, 5 of them surviving to adulthood. They were; Truman Curtis, William Hayden, Charles Van Meter, Albert Jewett, & Hettie Douglass.

Horner Cemetery
Recorded in May 1972, this cemetery is located in Dunklin County - Clay Township - Section 5 - Range 9E. In the Dunklin County Historical Society Book Vol. I there is an artical by Rev. L. M. Lemonds that states, "In February 1832 Thomas Neel and his wife's father, Mr. Ray came to this county. Mr. Ray was killed, by being thrown from his cart, and was the first person buried at the old Horner burying grown." Also in Vol. I Mrs. Hettie H. Bradley tells about William H. Horner (who I beleve is burried in the Horner cem= etery although I could not find a stone for him. ) Mr. Horner was born in Tenn. in 1795, he build the first house in Horner- sville in 1832, laid out and established the town of Hornes" ville in 1840. Mrs. Bradley also talks about the Brannums. "The Brannums and Horners came to Hornesville and vicinity in the early 1830s. Michael Brannum was born is South Carolina in 1777. When he came here his family consised of his wife, Aquilla, his son, Tecumseh, named for the famous Indian chief of Ohio, who became a General in the English Army. His daugh- ter, Victorine, sometimes given as Victoria, who became the wife of John Z. Horner, who was born in Tenn. in 1821. Victoria Horner Brannum was born at Little Prairie (now Caruthersville) Mo. Jan. 7, 1817 died in Hornesville July 7, 1916 and is buried at the Horner graveyard." There are many unmarked graves in this cemetery.
