INTRODUCTION
1910
T HIS is the eighth annual edition of R. L. Polk & Co.'s Anaconda City Directory. Forty-five years of continuous effort in this line ' of work enables the publishers to present to its patrons and the public generally a directory of Anaconda equal to any similar publication in the United States, and a work excelled by none, not even the largest metropolitan directories. [ The publishers wish to extend thanks for the liberal patronage bestowed upon the work, and for the courtesies extended to its represen- tatives.
Respectfully,
R. L. Polk & Co. of Montana

Board of Trustees, E P Mathew- son, pres; Warren E Jenney, sec; J E Clifford, E B Catlin, W K Dwyer; Miss Elizabeth L Thomson, librarian ; Miss M E Livingstone, asst librarian ; John Ahern, janitor.
Mrs P A Hearst of California erected it in memory of Senator George Ilearst. The library was opened in July, 1895, in tem- porary quarters on Cherry street. In June, 1898, it was located permanently in the building it now occupies, which is an ele- gant edifice valued at $50,000, excluding pictures and books.
The collection of pictures is very valuable and includes oil paintings, etchings, water colors, Braun and Italian photo- graphs and photogravures. Two writing rooms, one each for women and men, also writing material, is provided for general use. The leading periodicals are kept on the racks. The cir- culation averages 45,000 yearly.
The library was supported entirely by Mrs Hearst until June, 1904. At that date it passed into the possession of the city, Mrs Hearst having presented the beautiful building and all books and furniture to the city of Anaconda. it is now supported by a city tax and managed by a board of five trustees.
