CHARLOTTE
"The Bright Spot on the Map"
PREFACE
We herewith present Vol. XIV of the Charlotte City Directory. No more striking evidence of the growth of the City of Charlotte can be had than by reference to this book.
The directory is more than a mere list of residents with their occupation and addresses; it is a complete and accurate guide to your city, your government, your institutions and other organiza- tions. It is a history of your City.
There is no publication in. the world which gives the informa- tion contained in the city directory, therefore there is probably no other publication in which all the people are so vitally interested. To gather the data and compile a volume of this character is no easy task. It requires time, system, patience and experience, and incurs no little expense. Very few people have any idea of the work it means and the tenacity it takes to get out a complete di- rectory.
The directory, therefore, is a publication which stands in a class to itself, and is one of the foremost enterprises of any city, for it is a salesman that is always "on the job." Therefore, it should re- ceive your liberal support, for without such it cannot exist.
This volume contains 18,502 names of individuals. Using the conservative multiple 21/2 times to represent the names of the wo- men and children not included or counted, indicates a population of
46,255
In concluding we desire to thank our patrons for their support. We shall endeavor to deliver our next issue of the Charlotte Di- rectory not later than May 15th, which is the proper time. Yours truly
