SPECIAL ADVERTISERS' DIRECTORY
Preface
G ASTONIA is a one-generation town and there- fore looks to the future with most bright pros- pects. A generation ago there was nothing here but a small village. To-day it is prosperous munici- pality with twenty-seven textile mills, counting some which border on the city but are not in the incorpo- rated limits, and is the county seat of a county having over seventy-six mills of this kind. There are also many other industrial enterprises of importance in Gastonia.
The city has eleven miles of bitulithic streets and many miles of other less expensive paving. There are many miles of good sidewalks. The homes are attractive and comfortable. The mills provide excel- lent living conditions for their employees. The busi- ness houses are up-to-date and do a large business. The four banks are most important factors in the in- dustrial, commercial and agricultural development of the section. The larger denominations are represented by creditable church edifices. Many fraternal orders have large lodges. The health conditions of the city are first class-a factor in this being the unusually pure water supplied by the city plant. The city is lighted and the mills are mostly operated by hydro-electric power.
The city has a live Chamber of Commerce with a salaried executive secretary in charge and attractive and commodious quarters down-town.

Thrift and Economy Bring Permanent Prosperity -:-
But economy does not mean that you are to bottle up your business.
Advertising is necessary to every successful business.
You may not see the results today but it means prosperity and plenty tomorrow.
The DIRECTORY is one of the recognized world wide standard mediums for advertis- ing and is becoming more popular every day. Why? Because it brings results.
Prosperity endures only with those who sttuggle for it
