INTRODUCTION AND GENERAL INDEX
HILL DIRECTORY CO., Inc., publishers of South- eastern Directories, present to subscribers and the general public, this, the 1958 edition of the Leaksville, Spray and Draper City Directory. This is the first Hill Directory of Leaksville, Spray, and Draper and is com- pletely standardized according to the policies and practices of the Association of North American Direc- tory Publishers.
Confidence in the growth of Leaksville, Spray and Draper's industry, population and wealth, and in the advancement of their civic and social activities, will be maintained as sections of this Directory are consulted, for the Directory is a mirror truly reflecting Leaks- ville, Spray and Draper to the world.
The enviable position occupied by HILL'S Direc- tories in the estimation of the public, has been established by rendering the best in Directory service. With an unrivaled organization, and having had the courteous and hearty cooperation of the business and professional men and residents, the publishers feel that the result of their labors will meet with the approval of every user, and that the Leaksville, Spray and Draper Directory will fulfill its mission as a source of authentic information pertaining to the community.
Five Major Departments
The five major departments are arranged in the following order :-
I. THE YELLOW PAGES constitute the first major department of the Directory. This embraces a complete list of the names and addresses of the business and professional concerns of Leaksville, Spray and Draper, arranged in alphabetical order under appropriate head- ings-a catalog of all the activities of Leaksville, Spray and Draper. Preceding this catalog, likewise grouped under appropriate headings, are the advertisements and business cards of firms and individuals desiring to present a more complete list of their products or serv- ices than is possible in the catalog itself. The Yellow Pages represent reference advertising at its best, and merit the attention of all buyers and sellers seeking sources of supply or markets for goods. In progressive communities like Leaksville, Spray and Draper, the necessity of having this kind of information up-to-date and always immediately available, is obvious. The Directory is the common intermediary between buyer and seller, and plays an important role in the daily activities of the commercial, industrial and professional world.
TI, THE ALPHABETICAL LIST OF NAMES of

residents and business and professional concerns is the second major department, printed on white paper. This is the only record in existence that aims to show the name, martial status, occupation and address of each adult resident of Leaksville, Spray and Draper and the name, official personnel, nature and address of each firm and corporation in the community.
III. THE DIRECTORY OF HOUSEHOLDERS, IN- CLUDING STREET AND AVENUE GUIDE, is the third major department, printed on green paper. In this section the numbered streets are arranged in nu- merical order, followed by the named streets in alpha- betical order; the numbers of the residences and business concerns are arranged in numerical order under the name of each street, and the names of the householders and concerns are placed opposite the numbers. The names of the intersecting streets appear at their respective crossing points on each street. Spe- cial features of this section are the designation of ten- ant-owned homes and the listing of telephone numbers.
IV. THE NUMERICAL TELEPHONE DIRECTO- RY. on blue paper, is the fourth major department.
V. THE RURAL ROUTE DIRECTORY is the fifth major department, printed on white paper, with a sec- tion for Leaksville, followed by a separate section for Draper.
Community Publicity
The Directory reflects the achievements and am- bitions of the community, depicting in unbiased terms what it has to offer as a place of residence, a business location, as a manufacturing site and as an educational center. To broadcast this information, the publishers have placed copies of this issue of the Directory in Directory Libraries where they are readily available for free public reference, and serve as perpetual and reliable advertisements of Leaksville, Spray and Drap- er. There are more than 700 Directory Libraries in- stalled in the chief cities of the U. S. and Canada by members of the Association of North American Direc- tory Publishers, under whose supervision the system is operated.
The publishers appreciatively acknowledge the recognition by those progressive business and profes- sional men who have demonstrated their confidence in the City Directory as an advertising medium, with assurance that it will bring a commensurate return.

PUBLISHERS
-thus assuring you the ultimate service that skill and care can produce in the way of City Directories or other reference media, and providing pro- tection against fraudulent advertising schemes which operate under the name of Directories.
The following "Standards of Practice," adopted at the inception of the Association of North American Directory Publishers in 1898, and strictly ad- hered to over the years, is your guarantee of satisfactory Directory Service.
The publisher of a Directory should dedicate his best efforts to the cause of business uplift and social service, and to this end pledges himself:
1. To consider, first, the interest of the user of the book.
2. To subscribe to and work for truth, honesty and accuracy in all departments.
3. To avoid confusing duplication of listings, endeavoring to classify every concern under the one head- ing that best describes it, and to treat additional listings as advertis- ing, to be charged for at regular rates.
4. To increase public knowledge of what Directories contain; to study public needs and make Direc- tories to supply them; to revise and standardize methods and classifica- tions, so that what is wanted may be most easily found, and the Direc- tory be made to serve its fullest use
as a business and social reference book and director of buyer and seller.
5. To decline any advertisement which has a tendency to mislead or which does not conform to business integrity.
6. To solicit subscriptions and ad- vertising solely upon the merits of the publications.
7. To avoid misrepresentation by statement or inference regarding circulation, placing the test of refer- ence publicity upon its accessibility to seekers, rather than on the num- ber of copies sold.
8. To co-operate with approved organization and individuals en- gaged in creative advertising work.
9. To avoid unfair competition.
10. To determine what is the highest and largest function of Directories in public service, and then to strive in every legitimate way to promote that function.
$100 Reward will be paid by the Association of North American Directory Publishers for the arrest and conviction of any person or persons engaged in the publishing, collecting or canvassing for any fraudulent or fake directories.
