PREFACE
L UMBERTON, N. C., the county seat of Robeson County, is sit- uated on the beautiful Lumbee River. It is within a few hours ride by rail from Richmond, Va., 240 miles ; Wilmington, N. C., 67 miles; Charlotte, 128 miles. The Seaboard Air Line, Virginia & Carolina Southern Railroad, and the Raleigh & Charleston Railroad, furnish facilities for going north or south, east or west, twice daily. There are four flourishing cotton mills, a large cotton oil mill, one of the largest lumber manufacturing plants in the South, a foundry, and several other manufacturing enterprises running full time all the time. The town is in the heart of the best farming section of the State. Anything will grow here that can be raised almost anywhere in the Temperate Zone. The principal products now being raised are cotton, tobacco, corn, oats, wheat, and the progressive farmers are pushing ahead with experimental farming in many other agricultural fortune-making products. Truck growing is beginning to interest the farthest seeing of our planters. There is room for settlers, pro- vided they are enterprising and provident. Good farming lands can be had at reasonable price. Health, happiness, and prosperity abound in profusion. Environment means much to those seeking a home.
Churches of all denominations. One of the finest graded and high schools to be found anywhere-two large buildings required to accommodate the pupils-both buildings up to date. Climate equable -no severe cold or intense heat. An ideal home town.
Lumberton has every thing you want and all that is required of you is to do your part. Natural advantages offer themselves to any and every good householder, and the people already here hold out the hand of hearty, helpful welcome.
Lumberton has two newspapers, The Robesonian, established in 1870, one of the leading semi-weekly newspapers of the State, and The Tribune, published weekly.
Any further information can be secured by writing the Chamber of Commerce.
