POPULATION
1950 population of Greater Mooresville, 9,510.
GOVERNMENT
Mooresville was incorporated in 1873 and has the aldermanic form of government, consisting of a mayor and nine commissioners. The town tax rate is one of the lowest in the state. The fire department is modern and efficient. The business section is fully equipped with "white way" lighting system and the residential sections are well lighted.
PUBLIC UTILITIES
The water plant is municipally owned, the source being a stream several miles from town. The water is filtered in a modern plant, is a soft water, and the supply is adequate to meet any future need. Moores- ville is served with electricity for lighting and power by the Duke Power Co., whose distribution system cover the entire city. Telephone service is maintained by the Mooresville Telephone Co. Telegraph service through Western Union.
MANUFACTURING
Mooresville is the home of "Moor Quality" turkish towels, a pro- duct of the Mooresville Mills, the largest manufacturing plant in Iredell County. A complete line of towels, wash clothes, bath mats, beach sheets, as well as women and men's suiting, drapery materials, up- holstering, and flannels are manufactured and finished there. Among the modern finishing methods used, sanforizing is perhaps the best known.
The Cascade Rayon Mills, a division of the Burlington Mill Corpor- ation, are located just outside the city limits. Cascade Mills manufacture beautiful crepe and taffeta materials, using the finest rayon yarns.
An up to date foundry and machine shop operates in Mooresville, manufacturing hydraulic presses and all types of textile machinery parts.
The Mooresville Baking Co., makers of "Golden Crust" bread and cakes, serve a wide territory with products of real merit.
Mooresville Ice Cream Company make and distribute "DeLuxe Ice Cream."
Mooresville Co-operative Creamery manufactures "Autumn Leaf" butter and distributes pasteurized milk.
Mooresville Flour Mills are manufacturers of plain and self-rising flour, also a variety of feeds.
Two large lumber plants operate in the town, W. H. Keeter Lumber Co. and Mooresville Furniture Co. The Barger Construction Co. is a

large building contractor and serves all parts of the United States with a complete building service.
AGRICULTURE
Mooresville prides herself in being in the heart of a rich farming section. Among the major crops are cotton, corn, wheat, truck farming, and dairying. In the town and immediate vicinity Mooresville is ap- proximately fifty per cent urban and fifty per cent rural.
CLIMATE
The climate in Mooresville is as delightful as can be found. The prevailing western breezes from the Blue Ridge Mountains temper the summer heat and the winters are very moderate.
EDUCATION
The Mooresville schools rank with the best in the state. The High School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and has the highest rating with the State Board of Education. All schools have a nine months term. Davidson College, one of the best known of the southern colleges, is located seven miles from Mooresville.
RELIGION
There are 13 churches in Mooresville representing the following denominations: Methodist, Presbyterian, Associate Reformed Presby- terian, Catholic, Baptist, Lutheran, and Church of God.
CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS
Mooresville has a great variety of civic and fraternal organizations including the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Retail Merchants Assoc- iation, Woman's Club, Kiwanis, Lions and Rotary Clubs and an Amer- ican Legion Post. These various fraternal, social, and charitable organizations assist in building a greater and better Mooresville.
