YOU'RE WELCOME TO

Newton-Conover, where a community population of 12,000 spreads over a six square mile area leaving plenty of room for new neighbors. We like to make new friends, and we'll be happy to meet you personally, if you'll call our Chamber of Commerce, Office Phone IN 4-2042, and let us make an appointment.

Newton-Conover is happily situated in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, 80 miles from Asheville on the West and and 40 miles from Charlotte to the Southeast, giving easy access to Mountain resorts and lakes. Newton is the county seat of Catawba County, with a popu- lation of 8,000, and Conover has a population of 1,600.

Ninety percent of the area's population are home owners, and nine- tenths of the population is white, one-tenth Negro. The foreign-born percent is negligible. The native-born labor potential is good, and the people widely-recognized as the best type of workers, with special skills in hosiery, cotton textiles and woodworking industries.

The climate is most agreeable, with seasonal averages: Spring 56 degrees, Summer 74 degrees, Autumn 57 degrees and Winter 50 de- grees. The average rainfall is 49.9 inches. The elevation is 993 feet.

Transportation facilities are excellent, and this community is served by the main line of the Southern Railway, the C & N W Railroad, Queen City Bus Company, Conover-Newton Bus Lines, and Piedmont Airlines in nearby Hickory. More than 20 motor express lines serve the com- munity.
