We take pleasure in presenting our first directory of Reidsville, N. C. Situated in the heart of the bright leaf tobacco belt on the main line of the Southern Railroad, is well located for a modern industrial city.


THE CITY


City offices housed in new granite and marble municipal building. Com- pleted in 1926. City government: Mayor, council and city manager. Efficient police, street, fire and health departments. Pure water. Abundant supply. Storage capacity 875,000 gallons. Pumping capacity 1,500,000 gallons daily. Gas: Fran- chise now in hands of city council. Postal receipts: 1926, $28,085.53. Six months 1927, $18,584.33. Assessed property value, $7,835,000.00. Receipts UT. S. Internal Revenue Department (Reidsville office) 1926: $21,420,618.16; average monthly receipts, 1927: $2,500,000.00. ' Tax rate: $1.40, with consistent annual reduction. Location: Main line Southern Railway, hetween New York and Atlanta; 14 hours from New York; 11 hours from Atlanta. On route 170 National Highway be- tween New York and New Orleans and Miami. Sixteen passenger trains daily. Frequent bus service all points. Population 9,000, 89%, wliite American: increase 7 years, 54.6 Modern, compact business district; 1 national; 2 state, 1 indus- trial banks and 2 building and loan associations.
