POPULATION: According to U. S. Census, the City's population in 1940 was 8,545-99% American, while in 1930 it was 3,310. The in- crease in that ten year period was 158%, but conservative estimates, based on the continued rapid growth since 1940, place the present popu- lation at 14,500. The present estimated population for Roanoke Rapids township is 25,432 and for Halifax County, 63,100.

THE GOVERNMENT is vested in a Mayor and six city commission- ers who are progressively administering the affairs of the City to provide the necessary facilities required for its rapid growth.

Company, operating two branches, and Citizens Bank & Trust Company. Combined resources of $5,737,314.68.
