PREFACE.

In submitting this, the first volume of a directory published by myself for Goldsboro, I call especial attention to some of the new features of the work.

In the Alphabetical Department a complete list of the residents of Golds- boro is given, together with their home and business address and occupation, and all married people are denoted by the wife's name appearing in parenthe- sis thus (Mary).

The Miscellaneous Department gives detailed information in regard to the city and county governments, churches, fraternal orders, etc.

The Business and Professional Department classifies the business and pro- fessional interests of Goldsboro under their separate headings.

The Street Guide gives a complete list of the streets in Goldsboro arranged in alphabetical order together with a description as to their location.

A fac-simile of the latest map of the city is also furnished.

In addition a careful and accurate census of the city has been made, a statement of which will be found on the title page.

I wish to thank the patrons and many friends who have supported this work and especially so the Chamber of Commerce for their earnest co-opera- tion.

Very Respectfully, Chas.S. gardiner
